Don't know if this is the right forum or not, or if it's been mentioned before, but I just thought I would show you guys this.

http://www.soapods.com

I've always had really horrible sensitivity to certain fabrics and especially to washing powder. A friend suggested these a few weeks ago so I got hold of some from a health food shop and they've made a huge difference; lovely clean, soft clothes that don't itch me and leave me with scratch marks from where I try and rip my skin off at night, haha!!

They're basically the nuts of the 'soap nut' tree which grows in South-East Asia/India... they've got some kind of natural soap stuff in the shell. So it's all natural too and chemical-free which is always good.

If you're interested, I've seen a few suppliers around the place under various brand names and in different countries (on websites) so you could probably find one at a health food shop or something in your area.

(I'm in no way affiliated to them, just thought someone might be interested if they have sensitive skin too!).

Thanks for the link! That stuff looks like just what I've been looking for. So tired itching after sleeping on newly laundered sheets. I've even tried so-called sensitive skin, fragrance free preparations, and they still irritate.

No problem - I figured I probably wasn't the only aspie with skin issues, and I only just heard of them through a friend overseas, but they've seriously been a God-send. :)

I've just done a load of washing now, and they've passed my test! I went outside and rubbed some mud into my trousers that had already got cooking oil and tomato sauce all over them... they're clean as a whistle, not a trace left, and super-soft!!

The only smell is the lavender essential oil I put with the soap nuts to give the clothes a bit of a fresh scent.

Honestly, these things are a miracle to me... I was at my wits end, having tried just about every sensitive skin washing powder/liquid in the shops!!

(Plus they're organic, fair trade, sustainable, compostible, and chemical-free... exactly the sort of thing I buy most of).

The videos quite amusing (though I have seen it before, and you do have to ask how many DIDN'T sign the petition as they realised what it was... the video is pretty subjective, I know I would've picked up on it, but not everyone has an understanding of chemistry).

Don't see what it has to do with soap nuts and aspie-related skin sensitivities though??

You know ive had so many sensitivities to laundry detergent, and we tried amway, and it doesn't have a smell really, and works real good. Have you ever tried amway? By the way thanks for the link, i'm checking it out right now!

I did when I was younger and it was ok. Sanden Brook was ok too. I can't get either here though, and to be honest I love all the natural/chemical free/organic/fair-trade/don't pollute the environment-ness of these even more now. Plus the lack of smell... I really hate hate hate that detergent smell, it makes me ill! :D

I think so :D

The pods have a funny smell on their own, but it doesn't come out in the wash. I put some lavender essential oil with them last night and now everything smells very vaguely of lavender... helped me sleep well last night!!

I have no chemical sensitivities ( and i've worked with a lot of nasty toxins in my chequered career), but i do have a reaction to sunlight.
when the rest of me gets burned enough to peel, my arms get a rash.

Solar dermatitis... hows that?... allergic to the source of life...lol

Ooh, how do you get your Vitamin D then?

Vitamin D is amazing... you just have to work out the best way to get it. Well, the best way generally speaking is 10mins in direct sunlight on exposed skin (it forms in the outer layers) followed by 10mins in the shade so your skin can absorb it... the moment you start turning pink it means it's burning off and the whole exercise is useless. But anyway, it stops most diseases and illnesses, boosts your immune system like you wouldn't believe, keeps you a healthy weight, just err... keeps you healthy in general, and not depressed... and pretty much everyone massively lacks it in the western world.

Can be tough though... I burn in about 5mins in New Zealand where there's no ozone layer and I'm white as a ghost. :(

/off-topic rant :D
