Alfa Male VS Asperger

It seems as an AS Im immune to mob mentality. It has it ups and downs. I used to get in more fistfights at school not because I wouldnt accept my place on the male pecking order but because I refused to have ANY part of it. I never knew how to bluff so fists went flying.


Yesterday at my acting class the Alfa Male techer did something WRONG. Hes the biggest ALfa Male Ive ever seen. A Metrosexual player that talks over and not directs but FORCES a conversation to go where he wants.His poop doesnt stink and no matter what youve done hes got a story that will top it. Basically hes the" I taught Bruce Lee how to fight and Elvis how to dance" kinda guy. And people put up with it. THe class isnt going as well as it should, well you know the saying theres never bad students justbad teachers.

Sometimes the group goes out for a drink after class. I tag along and maybe talk on on one with someone usually Im laughing my butt off at the Alfa Male guy not because his stories are entertaining b ut because I am just AMAZED with how much crap hes full of and believes it. Noone can tell why Im laughing, they think its his jokes.

SO anyway yesterday he says for next week plan to do an scting scene based on using his props. Then he PULLS OUT A PUMP ACTION SHOTGUN AND A SEMI AUTOMATIC PISTOL!

I grew up using building, disasembling etc guns. So Im not afraid of guns because of ignorance, quite the opposite.

I said WHOH you mean you want a room full of untrained people to come in next week and play with your guns while were actinG?

I said in this day and age there is NO REASON to do this. I'm a sculptor and a propmaker and I can have two plastic bb guns ready for next thursday. I said I know all about the weight as a Psycological factor. In fact they melt lead into the Star Trek phasers to give them some realistic heft.

I listed movies I knew, local low budget and hollywood where the use of blanks has resulted in injury or death. I also said I turned down a nice make up effects job because they insisted on using real knives in a slasher film even though I made a plastic painted copy and they could not tell the difference by looking at them.

What blows me away (oops) is that I was not the only one who had resevations but the two others who had them decided to work through them?! I know they use real guns in movies, but those are trained armorers, and I still insist theres no need. All the guns in Peter Jacksons Bad Taste were clay and pipes but I didnt know untill he mentioned it.

My point is I am an Asperger. I have the ability to make my own decision and stick to it. What the Hell is wrong with the rest of the class?

By the way. I was told not to come back next week.

I was told not to come back to 3 literary workshops, for similar reasons as yours.

Some alpha males, such as 'respected leaders' are fine people - I still don't like authority, but some are ok.

Other alpha males, however - such as this one - are complete pr**ks. And some of them are so bad that they should burn in hell. I'm not one for mob mentality or competition - I HATE it.

Sorry to hear things went that way. I'm all too familiar with the fallout of being unable to accept "my place" in the pecking order. I simply cannot see these idiotic imaginary hierarchies that society creates. I'll play along until there is a matter that is beyond reason, then play time is over. I prefer to use common sense in times of need, yet the rest of the world seems content with social drama as a means of handling all things.

If I seem agitated, I am. I'm pretty sure pecking orders and social hierarchies are my top pet peeves. It's difficult for me to accept that something that I cannot understand. And I cannot understand something that makes no logical sense.

The thing about AS is youll never catch us "just following orders" against our better judgement.

The pecking order thing. People just do not want to accept that I am self absorbed most of the time anyway ( wondering my own thoughts ) and it pisses them off that I have no intention or intrest in reconizing the order.

Another related thing Id like to ask is how do you men deal with the whole " busting his chops " male bonding insult thing? Maybe I should start a new thread just on this.

As for going off on my own to act, i already have. Whats weird about this is it's all improvisation, yet we get chewed out for being ourselves.

I started ( yes its pay as you go) the class for fun then stuck with it because it was therapudic. I was learning how to listen better and get out of my own head better. Buts its not fun anymore. I have no intention of dragging up my worst memory just so i can convince a group of people Im emotionally "feeling it" while acting. Its just not for me. What Ivr been complimented on before is how natural I act and oblivious to the camera. Ill never get cast as a ex con alcoholic who just had his wife die and I wouldnt want to .

I used to have an Alpha male in charge of my department, a big ex-Army guy who was always bragging about himself and his alleged accomplishments. Since my father was the same way, I suppose conflict was inevitable ...

Business office sent out an e-mail that everyone *ought* to get photo ID cards; if we didn't get them by the end of the year (3 months away), the only penalty was that it would cost us $5 to get one after that. Next comes a confusing flurry of conflicting follow-up e-mails: you need a form, you DON'T need a form, you need to stand in line with everyone else at the ID place, you DON'T need to stand in line. I decide these people have no clue what they are doing; since I'm a busy guy, I decide to hold off on getting an ID until things settle down after a few weeks.

Next thing you know, Alpha boss issues an edict that if anyone in his department doesn't have an ID by the end of the week, they're going to have to answer to him. My natural Aspie (although at the time I was undiagnosed) rebellion against authoritarian figures kicks in, and I decide to ignore his nonsensical demand.

A couple of days later, I'm sitting outside a conference room where an interviewee is taking a pre-employment test that I'm waiting to grade. Alpha male wanders out of his office, sees me sitting there and immediately flies into a rage. "Have you gotten your ID yet?" he shouts. "No", I calmly reply. "When are you going to get it?" he yells. "I'm not sure", I say calmly. He then embarks on a loud harangue (within hearing range of several co-workers) about how I"m going to get the ID whether I like it or not and essentially threatens me with losing my job if I don't obey his order. I ignore him and continue reviewing the interviewee's application; after a few more loud threats, he wanders off.

The next day (Friday), I e-mail the Alpha male's boss and ask him if we are required to get ID cards by today; he responds that they are "encouraging" people to get their ID cards as soon as possible. I reply (cc'ed to Alpha male) that since we are NOT required to get an ID card today, I will not be getting one.

The following Monday, Alpha male stops by my cube and says we need to talk. My supervisor (who says and does nothing throughout the whole business) accompanies me in to a conference room, where the Alpha male asks me if I've gotten my ID yet. I tell him I haven't, and explain my rationale. He says I need to get the ID card for "homeland security" purposes, that if there's an incident ID cards will be needed to enter the building. I consider this a huge load of baloney that is a byproduct of his militaristic mindset, but all I say to him is that if he had bothered to explain that to people instead of just issuing his ridiculous edict, maybe I would have been more cooperative. I tell him I'm getting the ID card at the end of the day, but I continue my own form of rebellion by getting it on my own time instead of on company time.

Funny thing; I've never received a single award or bonus since, even though I consistently outperform 90% of the bozos around here, if I do say so myself.

Bottom line: Alpha males beat Aspies every time ...

I didn't pay attention to politics where I worked. Had a great job, thought I was doing well. I spoke up in meetings (bad idea), and ticked off most of management, and wound up as a contractor. Lesson learned. Now I just stay out of the way and let everyone else fight over what scraps of power they can adhere to...

Its legal to let people who are untrained handle handguns?

He pulled these things out of his pocket or whatever on the way to the bar?

I bet if he told the students who stayed that they needed to pull the trigger to get a "feel" for it they would do it.

I think you should start one, that sounds like an excellent topic.

Alpha males are one of the reasons I run my own business and therefore answer to no one but myself. As an AS, I of course do not understand these types who see everything as a competition or a hunt, and feel the need to dominate those around them.

No he didnt pull the guns out on the way to the bar. I went out with him and some of his non actor friends after an "open house" at the studio. There we all talked guns for a while. He mentioned having a concealed carry permit. I know hes at least taken that class.

What he did was pull the guns out as a surprise( no one knew what was in the bag) at the end of class Thursday. He said next week we have to act out a scene based on these props.

I called a woman who had missed the class she had heard about it. Shes an actor, they all are, I startred out in films doing special effects and stunts. What you see on screen is supposed to only LOOK dangerous. The woman mentioned she wanted to go so she could learn how to handle firearms. She said that she had been on a film shoot where she had to fire one off and nobody was there to tell her how. I said wheres the armorer? ( Hes the guy who is specfically trained to handle and instruct people on firearms, its a specialized job) She said there was no armorer that a police officer who was present because they were using his crusier showed her.

I said dont do another shoot with live guns unless theres an armorer. She asked whats shes supposed to do if there isnt one , I said YOU WALK AWAY.

While as a prop maker and effects artist I still see no need for live guns, I believe if you insist on them in your film you should have the actors professionally trained by an expert in a controlled enviroment.They use them on Stargate, and theyre deadly serious when the guns come out.

Still I will not ever work on a film with live guns involved in any scene I'm in nor real knives. One of the other actors said thats my perogitive like refusing to do nude scenes. I dont agree nobody ever accidentally got killed or injured because they were nude.

These people are going against thier better judgement because of the alfa male!
I could call the studio founder etc. A couple of years ago I wouldve. But I just dont care about people anymore. We're taught to be our own person as children and then this crap happens as adults. What is WRONG with the NTs?

You AS people would you ever doing something you were morally against because "you were just following orders?"
