I ask because the more I learn about monkeys, the more I see things that relate to me and not at all to those around me. Such as I loooove nuts and bananas, I looooove to swing, I feel at my best when I'm among trees, I highly prefer uncooked food, etc.

I don't think so. If someone has a sensitivity to light, does that mean that they are more similar to cockroaches (who seek darkness) than humans without light sensitivity? There is no connection.

According to Temple Grandin, autistic people are closer to animals in their thinking as they possess less functional frontal lobes and are therefore more visual in their thinking (as animals are). But this is due to an aberration in the formation of the brain and in evolutionary terms autistic people are as evolved as any other human.

How interesting. I never knew that.

I really didn't buy that part of her argument though, especially since many creative people think visually. When she talks about her logical way of thinking, it sounds more Spock/computer-like (she keeps on making references to her brain as a hard-drive of cross-reference images) though she's careful to contrast it with more emotional autistic people.

I like to think I am more like a cat: As do no like being told what to do, intelligent, independent, hate change, emotionally detached, inquisitive and have a second sense.

I think its because of our second sense that we can relate better to animals than NTs..

Just one of my many story's with animals:
A friend of mines dog, I use to go walking with her and this lovely little dog, when my eyesight was bad , anyway whenever we would walk into darker areas, the dog would always come to me as if to guild me through the dark spaces. It was as if it knew I could not see so well, my friend said it was very strange as usually the dog would only walk with her, or be off running and having fun.

But at times I really do feel like I have some sort of connection, understanding with animals. I do wonder if us aspies have some sort of psychic connection with animals, call it intuition, gut feeling.. who knows, but for me its very real....

Greentea, I like you, but NO!
An autistic monkey would be killed by the others in the troupe. Monkeys are even more regimented and violent about what behaviour is expected than humans are.

My profoundly autistic daughter seems to have a temperament that reminds me of chimpanzees. I wish that comparing people to other primates didn't sound like an insult.

Yes,Lelia is correct.I watched a documentary about chimpanzees once and was shocked at their violent behaviour. They are known to gang up on weaker members of the group and kill them. :(
It's a shame because we all know how playful they can appear as well.
