So I'm wondering if this would be a sensory issue, or maybe motor skill issue. Also wondering if any of you have experienced this and what you've done to remedy it.

It seems I almost have an inability to avoid pain. I continue to make the same mistakes over and over no matter how many times I've burned myself/stubbed my toe/tripped over something. It's like... there's an area in my brain where all those mistakes are supposed to go for future reference. Only they don't. Things like "Stepping over the Xbox360 cord when it's stretched too much will unplug it. Lift up and walk under next time." Yet next time, my first thought as I'm about to walk over the cord is "it's not too high" and once again, I knock it out and screw up someone's game. Depth perception issues perhaps? But then there's my hot water follies. This has to happen at least once a day too. I can never seem to remember that turning on the hot water faucet ONLY and putting my hands under the water WILL burn me. Yet somehow each time I turn on the water, I'm still always thinking "I'll only need the water for a couple seconds, I'll be done before it gets hot." But I never am, and I almost always burn myself and end up turning on the cold water too. You'd think I'd just try to do that in the first place. Even in video games. I'll target one monster, and end up aggro-ing three more and die hard. I resurrect, come back to the same place, target the same monster, aggro three more and die again.

Funny thing is I've been like this my whole life, and in one way have always been aware of it, but in another way never really thought about it. These past couple weeks are the first time I've ever really thought in depth about why I do this. I'm thinking if I really concentrate on the fact that I do this maybe I can prevent some of these instances from recurring.

So do I just lack common sense or what?

This sounds like one of 2 things:

1. You aren't developing the habit to avoid, using the new information.
2. You are second guessing that information.

You are certainly not like the title describes you.

Try to develop a reference point to determine what is safe, and DON'T second guess.

I know that is easier said than done, and I have had problems with those 2 as well, though I DO learn and take my own advice.

As for the water, the water HERE gets hot INSTANTLY! The water in my home USUALLY takes a while, but may get hot quickly. So you may ALWAYS have to watch that.

I have that problem too but get around it by "safety-izing" my house.

Then I only hurt myself at work... :)
