Unfortunately growing up I had a knack for humor. I always make people laugh and with it comes my hardship of misunderstanding what people are thinking. I have a very hard time evaluating what people are trying to get across in their part of the conversation. I have almost no understanding of sarcasm, and sometimes people get mad at me for it. Occasionally, being in 8th grade, people will use harshness in a joking manner. I don't understand how me being threatened, sword at, or mistreated is a comical gesture at which I might in some way find any type of humor. People get short with me for "Not being able to take a joke".

Another thing, why do people ask questions they don't want an answer too? For example, some people are like "REALLY?" in a sarcastic manner, and then walk away when i respond "Yes!".

What?

I use jokes and sarcasm daily. It gets me in trouble with people. People are unsure if I speak the truth or if I'm lying. I always tell them "When I'm being honest with you I will say 'Listen, I'm going to be honest with you', that or say nothing at all."

I joke a lot but I don't understand other people's joke. Even if I understand it I don't laugh because, well, I don't tend to laugh at other people's joke. I get into arguments over the humor not found in Family Guy. It is such a stupid show; I highly doubt the plebeians who watch it even understand it.

I usually aim and miss when it comes to reading sarcasm.

When I'm sarcastic, I'm usually about 50% serious. That's my sense of humor: I say things that sound funny and ridiculous but have a layer of seriousness to them. But it seems some aspies do have a problem with sarcasm. My parents are possible aspies and they did not allow their children to be sarcastic.

My parents (at least my dad) are sarcastic. My father and I aren't even pleasantly sarcastic but very rude.

If it's so stupid why do you doubt us plebeians understand it? Surely to say this you're suggesting the humour is not stupid at all but rather clever. Am I right? Go on, tell me I'm right.

I abuse sarcasm.

It's just an easy way to be funny for people like me who aren't, I guess.

I'm very sarcastic, but a lot of the time other people's sarcasm and jokes go right over my head. I'll get the joke after I'm told it's a joke and then I'll laugh(if it was funny). My ex and I were on the phone the other day and I told him I had to go and explained why. This was the rest of our converstion.
Him: "That was a very long explantion."
Me: "Was it?"
Him: "Yeah, usually when you say 'I have to go', I understand that you have to go."
Me: "Oh"
Him: "I'm joking, Autumn. *laughs* Come on, grow a sense of humor!"

I was just confused. It certainly didn't sound like a joke, but whatever.

Either way, yes, this happens to me.

Sarcasm usually leaves me really confused and annoyed when somebody knows I don't understand sarcasm and uses it with me anyways. I try to be with people who are less sarcastic then most NT, and for the most part it works. I'm still stuck with teachers who use sarcasm sometimes, but I just try to move on.

I'm so quick witted and sarcastic that I often have the problem of being horridly misunderstood. Sometimes people just don't know when I'm being serious. On the other hand, I've gotten out of some extremely sticky situations because I am so quick witted and sarcastic.

Double bladed sword? Definitely!

Double Edged Sword Topic

I understand sarcasm in print, but I tend to be more ironic when I write. I would not know it if I heard it because I do not understand words in that way. This is what I would tell someone if I was spoken to in the way you are describing. No capiche.

Thank you for the post.

Heh, well if you're of intellect you're not part of the vulgar people.

Here is what I meant:

I'm watching the show with a person, they laugh at something and I say to them "Yeah, that was a bit funny but did you understand it or did you just laugh because it was appropriate to laugh (like when shows add the laughter to show you it's the funny part)?" they just look at me and say "I just liked how Stewie talked."

What?

And in all seriousness, it is a stupid show. :)

I definitely understand sarcasm more in print, as I can analyze it, but it's so horrible when I'm a class where the teacher teaches with sarcasm. I usually get 70% averages in those classes in a subject that I usually get 80-90% averages
