Every year I go on a quest to purchase my ideal diary. The cover, layout and everything has to be spot on. Something sleek, Scandinavian and slim. Last year I bought a freakin Smythson which are too pricey. The irony is I rarely fill the thing in as my life is not exactly busy. Yesterday I spent over 5 hours searching the internet for one. Its driving me mad grrrr!!

For years, I had to have exactly the same diary every year, and when I was a student, always had to have exactly the same writing paper...

A person does not have to be "busy" to fill a diary! A rich inner life will suffice. In fact being too busy, leaves you too busy to write!

I always liked describing what happened in my life - in the world of my thoughts or in my life outside :D Once I even started a topic concerning keeping diaries: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt40823.html :D

I'm very particular & exacting about the blank book I choose for journal volume, no one else can pick one out for me.

Yes, I keep realizing this anew. I write more when there's not much to tell, because I have the time to go into detail about whatever is on/in my mind. When actually occupied with other activities, that's how I spend my time-rather than writing in my journal.

Didn't bother writing in diary 'til age 11, didn't keep one regularly until age 13-14. Wrote more when younger because everything was relatively unknown, now more things are familiar & repetitious-so has dropped off in recent years. Also, having the computer, online, and IRL people I can communicate with takes me away from practice/habit of writing much in journal-as if I've outsourced, subcontracted, delegated parts of myself to different methods & outlets.
