Do you ever get the urge to simply take off (leave town) for a few days leaving your old life behind for a few days and go to a place that you have never been to before by yourself. To simply go into a strange and different town and "explore uncharted territory" to get a layout of the land, the buildings and the people?

i often wonder what it would be like to do something like that but on a more permanent basis, rather than just a couple of days...just kinda disappear somewhere no one's ever heard of or been, where they couldn't find me, and just start life over again.

I have and it is great. When I lived in New York Cty, I used to hop a bus and go to the little farm towns in Pennsylvania. I would get a motel and just walk through town, out the roads, a few miles, just around in the fresh air. Just a few days revivied me.

Yes. I was just thinking about this, actually, but my responsibilities and fear of what people would say (mainly my mother, even if I'm not currently living with her) always stop me in the end. Hmm...

Is there breathable air on Mars? Is there water to drink and food to eat? And what if I can't make it back?

Just plan ahead and you'll do fine.

Yes, yes, yes! It's hard to explain... I so often fear to leave the house to go to the store, yet I get wanderlust. When I am far from home I can become someone else and even lose a few of my aspie traits.

Silver, will you do it?

YES, all the time.
Sometimes, I just want to get on a train and explore whatever place it takes me to.
Sometimes, I want to pick a direction and walk until I collapse.
This wanderlust becomes more strong when I'm either super-stressed or super-bored.

I like to dream about simply taking off, but only in dream world.

But know I never will fristly have family and never could leave my boys, also find change so hard, so usually over organize things - plan well ahead.

But do enjoy walking in my local hills, never plan that....

I did it once before. When I was living in Georgia I decided to runaway to Florida for a day or two. I finished doing my laundry then drove from the Atlanta area down to the west coast of Florida around Fort Myers and Naples.

There is a modified version of this: If you live in back of a pond and you like to go out at night with a flashlight and see all of the inhabitants that come out at night. Another dream of mine was to take a boat into a pond in the morning when all the mist was rising and go in and out of the little mist clouds as they were rising up off the pond.

I do. :)
I love the idea.
No point here though. I know everywhere around. So obscure holidays is the way to go. Far far away.
I prefer doing it with someone else I know though. I don't want to go alone far away.

I took a vacation this summer for my birthday and drove from CNY to NJ, about 6 hrs of travel. I lived here long ago and moved when I was 8. I always wanted to visit and it was just great to leave everything behind for several days and basicly pick up life in NJ where it ended when I was 8, I visited my old schools, teachers, neghboors and my old house. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. I know this not exactly what you guys mean, but its the closest I have ever come.

I've always wanted to do that. Maybe now that I work fulltime I could actually afford to do that.

I was very adventurous in my twenties. I went to Thailand on my own when I was 24 and love travelling solo. Then I emigrated to New Zealand when I 28. Best move I ever made.

Trees. Sunshine. Beaches. Breathing Space. :D

Yeah, I do this whenever I get the chance. I've been all over the US and Canada, been to Europe a couple times, and to Africa. I like to wander around large cities, to see large engineering projects like buildings, dams, whatever, to observe people, experience cultures and food. I also like very desolate areas with no people, like forests and deserts.
