Wilbur and Chopra are new age crackpots. They shouldn't be allowed opportunities to spout their BS on public radio. Wilbur thinks us "scientistic materialists" are stuck at a lower level of psychological development then his supposedly "enlightened" followers. Chopra should be forced to pass a class on quantum mechanics before he spews any more quantum spirituality snake oil.

The thing I like about Public Radio in in general and this show in particular is that they allow opportunities to people with diverse perspectives. Kinda like Wrong Planet does.

(So you couldn't find anything you liked about the show to talk about, something that might encourage others to listen?)

Personally i think budhist have the LEAST CONSCIOUS,

all they do is stay up in the mountains and do karate and meditate.

Are they making money?

Do they have sex?

Monks are suposd 2 refrain from having sex, if any of them ever followed that they wouldent exist first of all.

THey do all this PEACE this and PEACE that when their neibors in china are running over them with bulldozers.

"we must not retaliate- we have to show them how strong we are by suffering their abuse"

Do you think the chinese governent cares? All they are concerned about it increasing their bank accounts and spreading their land, not about "your peaceful state of mind"

Action is one of the most important things to have a good life. I know they say Buddhist have ll this hapiness, smiles across the face, but cmon now, do you have any ambitions?

nonsense. Do you really think a country the size of tibet could stand up to a country the size of china? 3 million or so versus 2 billion?

 That made me chuckle.

I am a Buddhist and I have over several billion conscious. So that's your entire post refuted.

Is there any way to get an mp3 or other kind of download of this talk? I can't believe Real Media thingies still exist.

Alan Wallace is a dude who knows his onions.

Do you mean conscience, consciousness? I don't know what you mean there.

I am Buddhist too, and I live on flat land in a house, have sex, study kung fu (not to be confused with karate), make a reasonable amount of money (please see fashionable wardrobe and cool house), and am part Chinese. All Buddhists are not Tibetan. Also, monks are celibate so, they're not going to usually be making more Buddhists. That's what laypeople (followers of the religion who aren't monks) do.

And, Buddha did encourage people to do well for themselves and their families with specific advice about money and how to use it wisely. With regard to ambition, please take note of the reputation that Asians, who are often Buddhist, have in mathematics, science, programming and music. A reputation for skills like that does not come from a tradition that devalues ambition.

Action is a very important concept in Buddhism and that has included martial arts as self defense for monks. An investigation into the history of kung fu will show that enormous contributions have been made by many Buddhists (including many monks).

And of course the Chinese government does care, but in a different way. Buddhism has been discouraged in China in part because of the encouragement to think for oneself (that would be more broadly because of political ideology). It is also discouraged by the Chinese government in Tibet because the head of the Tibetan government is the Dalai Lama, a figure analogous to the Pope but in Buddhism. So the Chinese government is far from being dismissive of Buddhist teachings - it fears them.

If you want more info, pm me and I'll be happy to recommend some books or discuss any questions you have.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing that.

I'v listened to a lot of Dr Deepak Chopra audios, his mix of western medicine, spirituality and sciency stuff is excelent.

Buddists/Taoists/etc rise above the mundane NT crap, don't get stressed like us stress munkeys! push themselves with kung fu, and karate comes from kung fu via Okinawa. Cung Lee, UFC cage fighter world champion, deos Shoalin Kung Fu, the same one as Shoalin Monks, they use meditation, thats how there able to do what they do.

Check out Dr Wayne Dyer, Byron Katie etc for a complete reality check aswell, if you dont beleive in all that, well thats up to you.

a guy called adampants2007/adampants2008 posted a series of lectures on youtube. those accounts are long gone, but you can still find jonathons work if you search around. I really dont know what i can say to induce people to suspend judgement long enough & listen beyond their core of beliefs ('religious' 'scientific... whatever) to understand what jonathon is trying to communicate - i suppose either youll be ready for this or you wont :)

anyway, 'reconnecting to spirit' very highly recommended. Ive re-listened to these talks many times & still dont 'get it' completely, (i struggle with some of the 'technical' sections) but its so refreshing to hear all these things explained from within intuition for a change.

Deepak Chopra actually said "An atom is a subatomic particle"

Yeah, and Deepak Chopra's brain is smaller than Deepak Chopra's brain.

Yeah, but where is he now? He is probably not alive, and afghanistan and iraq are bombed to bits. This is not a good example of why it is a good idea to attack a large country that has a lot of weapons.

Or perhaps it is: after all when the only alternative that presents itself is not to fight back there's not a lot of wiggle room.
