I was googling noise torture and found this essay by Schopenhauer on noise:

It's been very difficult for me since I moved into the city. This essay was very amusing.

Nice essay. I agree. Ill bred people are oblivious to noise.

I'm getting out of the burbs soon, screaming kids, revheads, parties ugh. getting an old house on a small acreage.
