This girl named Tania at my elementary school was so pretty to me and I loved the clothes she wore and what she smelled like and how she talked and stood and how she sat when she did her homework. I wanted to be just like her!

There was a girl in elementary school who I wanted to be just like, from kindergarten to grade 2. I loved the color of her skin, the clothes she wore, this interesting religious medallion on a gold chain she wore, with a little twisting little pin thing as another pendant on the chain hanging with the medallion, and how she never seemed to take it off, and how this bead necklace looked with it when she wore them both for a while in grade 2, and these cool and cute and sweet little pencils and pens she had, and her voice and how she was more popular than me and assertive, and I was intrigued by her Italian heritage, and how she always got my favorite color, orange, in everything that was passed out-- balls in gym class, stickers for name tags on desks, Christmas pencils, laminated paper shapes to identify in French, other stuff. Her last name, Ortona, even sounded like "oranges". And I liked how her first name had 3 syllables, so she got more attention when her name was said than when mine was said; mine, Katherine, had 3 syllables but was pronounced in two, and in kindergarten I was called Kate, one syllable, so people spent more time saying her name than saying mine... I was also jealous of this 8 ball on a string she wore around her neck once or twice that her dad made; I had wished I had one of those! I was wierd and thought it looked nice.

There is nobody I would like to be like, per se, but there are people who have traits I would like to emulate. I would like to be functional and successful like the best people I know. My mom is one person I look up to. Roger Bannister is another.

I have met too many people I wanted to be like. They were all eccentric, smart, cool, and, unfortunately, mean.

I wanted to be David Bowie and/or Adam Ant when I was a teenager. Dressed like one or the other all of the time. My parents thought I was weird.

I had this thing about Mike Myers, ten years ago, and I used to dress like Austin Powers.

I've always looked up to my older brother who has NT and AS qualities and is really cool. I also idolise David Attenborough and Noam Chomsky.

Batman, Fox Mulder, Michael Keaton, David Gerrold, Mr. Hendrick (my middle and high school band director), Dr. Corley (my undergrad band director), Mr. Joe (my practicum instructor), Dr. Hadsell (my program head coordinator and a woman, wow!), Captain Picard, Q, Spock, Dr. McCoy, Boba Fett (the literary version), Wolverine, Dr. Cook (my undergrad psych prof and my surrogate dad), Debra (my best friend and another woman!), Fred Schneider (think B-52s), Hawkeye, Col. Potter, Stephen King, Blue Man Group, Tom Beam (my first ever youth pastor), Neal Payne (my second real youth pastor--excluding the interims), Jim Sinclair, Tony Attwood, Dr. Gordon (my undergrad music theory prof), Mr. Ruppe (my 7th grade English teacher), The Riddler, Batgirl (another woman!), Robin Williams, Hermione (girl alert!), Dumbledore, Sirius Black, Lupin, Andy (a librarian at my grad school) . . . should I keep going? I could keep this up all night probably.

Edited to include Messiaen, Robert Heinlein, Douglas Adams, Ford Prefect, Professor McGonagall (woman! And I'm pretty sure I spelled her name wrong), Tim Drake, Barbara Gordon (woman!), Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Rosa Parks (woman!) . . .

Double edited to include: Horatio Caine, Elliot Stabler, Chris Keller, Olivia Benson (woman!), Captain Don (whatever his last name is - Law and Order: SVU), Detective Goren . . .

Basically back in school I wanted to be like anyone of the non-clumsy girls that had an ounce of fashion sense and didn't stutter when a guy started to talk to them.

I want to be like Oprah so I could have a lot of influence over people. Then I could convince them to do the right thing, like be very happy that spectrum people are on the planet. And also stop putting raisins in oatmeal cookies.

In highschool, I wanted to be like the popular kids. Then several years later, I saw how most of them wound up. Not that well. So I was happy I was saved from that particular fate.

I never actually wanted to be like them. I wanted to be safe from harm, but I didn't want to be them. In fact, I laughed at them and their followers, wondering how someone could care so much about things that meant so little in the long run.

Strange. In some ways, I was very very immature in high school, but in other ways I was very mature.
