I was diagnosed with it when I was about 2 but then the word went away when I reached elementary school even thought my second grade teacher wrote 'autistic characteristics' on my report card and wrote some comment and mentioned my hearing loss I had when I was a baby. But it was all in cursive so it was hard to read.
Then at age 12 I was diagnosed with AS.

So has anyone on here been diagnosed with autism and then later diagnosed with AS?

I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at age 9, then diagnosed with AS at age 16.

I was DX'ed when I was 4 and placed in special ed, then again when I moved at the age of 8 going on 9, and was not maintreamed till 5th grade.

I was diagnosed as being "Odd" when I was 3. Does that count?

I was diagnosed with "autistic-like" traits and went to a special ed preschool, but was mainstreamed in the 2nd grade as it was obvious I was doing well academically. I didn't really have much of a diagnosis until I was 28 and finally got the correct DX.

Yea I should say I was diagnosed with "autistic like traits" when I was about 3, which they thought was fragile x syndrome, which they then proceeded to test me when I was 3, 6, and 11 all negative... I was then diagnosed with severe adhd,ocd,odd,bi-polar,personality disorder, and many more until I got a real diagnosis at age 19!

When I was younger, especially around the ages of 3,4 and I think even 5, the psychologists always would make a note about me exhibiting autistic traits. Even though they stated this I was never actually diagnosed with Autism.

I was diagnosed with "Stupid" in kindergarten and ADHD in 3rd-4th grade. So 8 or something? Dunno... Something like that.

My diagnoses was Autism/Childhood Schizophrenia when I was a little kid. This was in the era of "refrigerator mothers" when they thought it was caused by bad parenting.

My parents of course were not "bad parents". Of course it goes without saying that Autism has nothing to do with Schizophrenia but this was way back in the 60s and almost nothing was known about it.:(

I was diagnosed at a young age, but I was considered "too smart" to be autistic. Now that more is known about the spectrum, I've been diagnosed with HFA, but I'm not sure that that is exactly what I have.
