ret*d. Because if I were ret*d I wouldn't have the mental capacity to perceive the condescensions and the smirks on the faces of those who take me for an idiot.

and

Castrated. Because if I were castrated - psychologically castrated - I wouldn't long for something I'll never have.

I think this way sometimes too, except castration. I got lucky once years ago, and I doubt it will ever happen again.. But Im extremely hopeless right now so I guess saying something like that isnt too surprising.. Then again Im extremely hopeless most of the time. When I say I think about it only sometimes I mean I have other things to distract me, like my computer and Stargate SG1 dvds and such (not anything actually useful to my life mind you).. So yeah, I can relate.

I wish I was ret*d because that way I wouldn't notice that others are so stupid and I can't do anything about it, even when I'm highly intelligent

I could really shut it all out if I were crazy enough that I had to be constantly medicated. I had a friend who used to say that "mental patient" could actually be viewed as a dream job, if not a career.

Any castration desire on my part is more specifically machine-envy.

I would absolutly want neather. Someday i will get layed when I am ready and with the girl I am supposed to be with and never do I want to be retarted because some of the best times in my adult life would be to hike miles into the woods and contimplate life, or the universe, or the past.

That's not true.

Have you ever spoken to someone who really does have an intellectual disability?

Read Letter to a baby who was thrown from a bridge and tell me that the author just doesn't understand how society treats people who are different.

For that matter, look up the entire history of the self-advocacy movement by people with intellectual disabilities. I have been to several conferences and meetings of self-advocates and believe me they understand just as much as autistic people do if not more, when they are being treated that way. Many of them are light-years ahead of us in terms of NT socialization skills, even if they have a lot more trouble with academics than most autistic people do. (Note that in people with intellectual disabilities, they tend to have somewhat better NT-social and daily living skills than academic skills (even if all of them are "below average"), whereas autistic people tend to be the exact opposite.)

So... yeah. Don't assume people are unaware. Or for that matter (as some on this thread seem to have done) that having trouble with the cognitive skills involved in academics means lacking emotional, ethical, or intellectual depth.

And be aware that some people still classified as having intellectual disabilities read this forum, and are doubtless (if they're reading this thread) very aware what's being said about them.

I wuldn't want that AT ALL! It is NICE knowing that people that considered me dumb(NOBODY knows everything, and sometimes I have done, or said, something that at least SOUNDED stupid) were generally dumber than I was. There have ACTUALLY been times that they found I was RESPECTED in my field, for a reason, and they had to depend on ME!

Just yesterday, I was asked to speed up a process , and it now goes over 720 times as fast!(SECONDS instead of hours!) They worked on that for apparently MONTHS! It took me only about an hour! That is even better than my last record, which now runs over 120 times as fast. The original time was over 6 hours, so I never got to see REALLY how long it took to run.

Frankly, I would like it better if I had a great comeback every time, and the willingness to use it.

As for castration? Apparently a lack of testosterone in males causes even MORE depression and, frankly, I like certain feelings, etc... even if not fully resolved.

As for the letter to the child thrown off the bridge? I was SHOCKED when I first saw "life goes on"! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Goes_On_(TV_series)

One of the key actors DOES have downs syndrome:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Burke_(actor)

Just goes to show you can't just count such a person out!

From/About Chris Burke

Where Are They Now
(November 2001) Lives with his parents in NYC, but has a weekend home in Long Island. Tours with his band, works with the NDSS, and occasionally acts.

I think that the OP had asked a very daft question. I also think that Christopher Burke is a very talented man.

Yeah, I thought I made that clear in my post. He CLEARLY appears to have downs syndrome but, as I recall, his parts were about as complete as everyone elses. And he WAS in a public role.

The point being, I want to be some type of being unable to perceive the way other people treat him.

Wow. I was thinking about how to respond to that.

I settled on saying that the label MR itself doesn't automatically mean you're blissfully ignorant of all social interaction. And if you now mean to say something similar to 'if you're "ret*d" enough, you don't realise anything anyway', then I must say that you ought to see how a genuine laugh of happyness can mirror on the face or the reactions of someone '"ret*d" enough'. That's a sign anyone can understand from scratch.

If you want to be ever blissfully unaware of the people around you, I think being unconscious is indeed the only alternative. Alternatively, sleep works too.
