Have you ever met another person that shared your obsession? What was your reaction to them?

If you haven't ever met someone that shared your obession, what would you do?

Do you think you would attempt contact with that person? Or would you just ignore them and stay in your seperate obessed world?

I for one tend to overdue it with anyone that shares a similar interest or obsession.

I would like to know how other Autism/Aspies feel about this.

Best Regards,

Idaho Aspie

I know someone online who shares my obsession.

We talk about it on msn. It's a lot of fun.

I usually just end up really talking with them. In the rare case that they have a peripheral interest different to mine, or know more than I do, I actually end up LEARNING something!

i generally get really excited/overstimulated..make an ass out of myself over it...etc..

My boyfriend sorta ended up adopting my obsession and brought it to even further obsessive heights..I guess that is sorta how we wound up together

I started a fan club for our obsession and the other person got a lot of people to join!

It depends on who it is and if I'm already close to them. If not, sometimes I'll converse with them about it if they do the iniating, but it takes a long time for me to trust people, so I never try to make friends with them because of a shared interest. If I'm already friends with them I do bond with them over it, but I've had to learn to hold back sometimes. A few exceptions of people can be as fixated on something as I can be. Most of my obsessions are internal. Some of them I have even be too embarassed to share because I think they are immature for a person my age. I just have to let them run their coarse, and hopefully something more age appropriate will take their place.

I would question why he/she is interested in such an absurd thing.

Honestly, I've not met many people who share my obsessions. I think we would get into debates which I don't mind. I like debating. :)

If you don't mind my asking, what is your obsession?

So you worry about social rejection if people find out you have a hobby more suitable for a 12 year old? Why is that?

I was lucky enough, that when I moved to my school in second grade there ere some people who shared the same interests. I have 2 NT friends that do as I do. When I chage obsessions, they do it too. It's nice and decreases the depression.

Dragons, I guess.

Probably a dumb question, but real dragons, like the Komoto, or the fake ones in fairy tales?

I always thought that dragons were based on the trips of knights that traveled to africa in the middle ages and discovered Komoto dragons that use to ravage small groups of African Villages. A bite from a Komoto Dragon can lead to a deadly infection and death. Not to mention the flesh wound can kill you too without proper clinical treatment.
