Do you ever find that when you want to explain something to someone you just end up speaking incoherantly? I find that if I know and have a picture in my mind of what I'm trying to say it's sometimes difficult for me to get the words in the right order for them to make sense to someone else.

Most recently, this happened at work. I was trying to do a price check for one of the cashiers and was having difficulty locating the item. It was a set of 36 colored pencils. I had found a set of 24, but couldn't find the set of 36 anywhere (normally you'd expect items that are that similar to be right next to eachother.) I passed by the cashier's counter and attempted to quickly explain to her that I hadn't yet found the item, but was still looking for it. What came out was something that made completely no sense, I said something like "it's 24, the smaller set, but it's not there and I'm looking now, be right back," which, obviously, she had no idea what I was referring to, and she just said "What?" and looked at me quite confused. I came back again when I checked the other location I thought it might be in (which it wasn't) and I started once again speaking incoherantly. After a few moments of her staring confusedly I realized I was making no sense, and it felt like my head was going in circles. I had to pause, take a breathe, and say "Ok, hold on, I can't talk." Before I could even begin to start speaking again.

I have a strong tendency to talk like that. It's as if the images/concepts in my head are hard to translate to words while maintaining the logic of the images/concepts.

My friends says I speak my own language. It's called Bumblef*ck.

Same here. I think much faster than I can speak, and the ongoing thoughts interfere with my speech process. Writing is much easier, somehow.

This happened to me yesterday. No one in the offices understood what I was trying to say. The whole thing got messed up, and I ended up missing most of one of my favorite classes. :(

I cant explain anything. Someone was looking for the remote and its next to a blue thing. I told her a gray thing was next to the blue thing.

If someone asks me where something is, all I can do is emitt a long uhhhhhhhhhh and point in the direction of it. It takes me at least 2 minutes to get it straight. Same for asking me for details of my day. I don't know why, but recall of such information is excruitatuioanally difficult many times for me.

Do I babble incorherrently? Only if I am somewhat excited.

This is exactly the reason why I find interacting with other people so hard. A lot of what I do and think is based on intuition and/or reflex (ie. even I don't always understand it). Trying to translate that into something normal people can understand is difficult at best.

I don't think in pictures; but, yes, sometimes I have the same problem. Actually, a lot. I wonder if I don't get enough practice speaking aloud.

I do this to and find that maybe i am thinking to fast and my mouth cannot keep up? Who knows, I just did this the other day and said to my husband (who will turn 26 this December)

"You will be the age that i was when you met me."

He told me this made no snese, but he understood what i was trying to convey. It makes perfect sense to me. Anyone else understand my words?

Yeah I often find I have to think out a speech in my mind if its important... heck anymore I wont even call in to order pizza (or anywhere besides for family/friends) because its even worse when I cant see the person.

That's what I do too. Although I don't really work it out word for word so much as force myself to think verbally about what I'm going to say. Knowing I've prepared gives me confidence to cope with unexpected questions, etc.

That happens to me sometimes too. It is a result of thinking too quickly and not being able to speak quickly enough. It might happen more often to people with AS, but I don't think it is strictly an AS thing because everybody does it.
