I think alot of us want to know how we compare to other autistics. What level of functioning do you think they were in the movie Miracle Run? I realize there were two 7yo kids and two 14yo kids in the movie. I'm curious what everyone thinks about all of them but for the poll answer based on the 14yo runner (Zac Efron).

Also, what did you think about the movie?

If you missed it, you can go to YouTube, search for Miracle Run, and click on Part 1. They have the full movie online, separated into 9 parts.

I think they were high functioning. The mother worked with them to bring them to that level.

I thought the movie was very good. The boys were different from each other. They both had different interests and different obsessions.

Both were high functioning and, more importantly, loved and cared about by their mom and a trusted friend. That makes a great deal of difference in people's lives.

That can never be overstated (the love that even one parent can make).

Mid-functioning. I thought the movie was okay. I couldn't understand why two nonverbal kids weren't diagnosed until that late. But, it happens. Now that we have new guidlines for diagnosing spectrum disorders, it shouldn't happen unless the docs are totally incompetant.

The scene in the grocery store where the kids are melting down and the mother's being abused by everyone around her is classic. People are a**holes and only hurt you in those situations instead of helping. I've been there.

It's interesting no one chose very high functioning autistic since that's how they're described in the movie. I think they are high functioning. If the 14yo were undiagnosed and saw a doctor, I think most docs would say there not autistic. They said that until they were 7 even with all the signs.
