I've wondered for so long WHY I hate housework. I'm not a lazy person at all, but I don't clean my house.

My reasons so far:

It's boring and it has to be done over and over again.

It puts me up close with bad smells and I'm hyper sensitive to smell so it's difficult.

I forget it needs to be done until someone points it out or it gets pretty bad and I do notice. My tolerance is way higher than other people's.

I think the biggest reason I hate it so much is that there's no way to tell where it starts and where it ends. I once worked as a lab tech and I wiped the wall of the lab office. The color underneath where I wiped was several shades lighter, and then where I wiped stood out from the rest of the wall. The walls were so dirty. I spent the rest of the night (partly on my own time) washing every square inch of the walls. I just couldn't stop until they were done and all the same.

It's like that just doing housecleaning. I can't just wash the dishes because the sink needs to be scoured out, and then the wall, and then the floor, and then........ I don't want to get started but once I start I don't know where to stop. So instead of just doing the dishes for 15 minutes I end up spending 4 hours doing heavy scrubbing and moving things and you just can't do that every day!

Do you hate housework? If yes, why?

That's the number one reason I hate it too. Every time I have to do housework, I know I'm going to have a migraine afterwards. :( That's why I tend to do it right before bed, so I can sleep off my headache. So frustrating!! !

I also hate it because it does seem neverending, sort of like you said. If it's clean in the morning, by nightfall it's a mess again. I don't mind a mess, but I am a clean freak in terms of germs, so I don't let it get too bad. Most people consider me fairly tidy. Every once in a while I get in the mood to REALLY clean (say, once a month, which is perfect), so I put on some music for an hour or two and go for it. And then the next morning it's messy again...

Yes. Why? You described excellent reasons. I'll add a few more: Low pay, lack of respect for the position, and others only make more work to do instead of helping.

I hate dishes passionately. Most of it is because of my sensory issues though. Silverware is metal, and metal is a huge problem for me. I also don't like touching wet glass. Dishes are a sensory nightmare.

I like doing laundry and vacuuming. I don't care much for cleaning the bathrooms though.

I've never had a dishwasher either and have always done they by hand. What bothers me about that is getting food in the dishwater. I want to be able to wash each thing in fresh, clean, soapy water, but after you wash a few things the water is no longer clean. So I fight the urge to refill the dishwater over and over again. I still end up changing the dishwater 2 or 3 times just for a normal amount of dishes, which I'm told is excessive. I also pre-wash which involves rinsing and soaking everything before I actually wash them, because it cuts down on dirtying the dishwater.

If I had alot of money I have thought I could hire people to clean but I would never let them into my house to touch my things! So I could never have someone else do the cleaning!

I do laundry very well and vacuuming is great, I agree. It's the bathroom that is the worst and the kitchen is next. :P

I hate the dirt and everything I have to put my hands into. It's also very, very boring and I usually got to have atleast short breaks to be able to keep my thoughts at hand. Very often I don't see a real reason for doing houseworked and am pretty much commanded to clean something up. It eats away my already-lacking motivation. There's also the problem of me not liking the change. Too messy is too messy, but too clean is also too clean.

I hate housework too!
I get sick of being the only one who does it.
I like my lounge to stay tidy for more that 3 hours.
My room is always a mess  but in my defence I don't have a big room and I seem to have a lot of junky stuff.
But in saying all that I do kinda feel better when things are off the floor and tidy.

This is interesting, through this thread I'm identifying more things that are helpful to me. Thanks to all for your input.

The starting and stopping thing is what I'm seeing now is huge. A dirty kitchen is just overwhelming. There is no clear process to follow, and then you have the sensory problems and it compounds the discomfort level.

With laundry there is a clear process - sort clothes, put in washer, put in dryer, fold, put away.

With vaccuuming there is a clear process - must pick things up off floor first, pick up small things too or the machine will be harmed, run the vacuum, turn it off and put it away.

With the kitchen it's more complicated and that really upsets me. Bathroom is too, plus the smells and general disgust.

I'm not exactly a slob, and I'm not exactly the neatest person around. I don't really hate housework, I just hate getting started so I tend to procrastinate.

I do hate roaches, they poop everywhere and live in the electronics. Heavy cleaning and keeping it up may make roaches uncomfortable, but the little blighter's can subsist on next to nothing, it's virtually impossible to be rid of them. I'd be motivated to keep clean to an obsessive level if I thought that would actually kill the f***ers.

I loathe housework. It doesn't help matters that I live with someone who thinks that I should clean up after him as if I'm his surrogate mommy.

When I lived by myself, my apartment was clean, but cluttered. I had an easier time keeping up with my own messes.
