Why is it when a person with Autism or any disability is good at something it's called their "Thing?"

You never hear of this same idea applied to someone who DOESN'T have a disability.

I have to partially disagree here.

Sure, that phrase is used for people both with disabilities and without...but I have heard it used in different ways amoung the two.

For example, my cousin who is NT is great with numbers...a bit of a math genius to say. People say it's his "thing" and just leave it at that.
With me, I have AS and I am particularly good at photography. My mother calls it my "special gift". She means my "thing" but since I have the "label" of AS now, the things that I am quite good at, it's always my "special gift" and not just a "thing" or "talent".

It's indeed annoying that some people assume that people with disabilities can't just have a "thing"...but it has to be "special". :x
Well, thats what has come from my experiences anyway.

My NT friend has a "thing" for lord of the rings... Don't we all have our "things"?
