I hate this worse than anything. I caught a 'cold', however I never catch a cold. It always becomes a sinus infection and bronchitis within 24 - 48 hours. Then I don't sleep, have panic attacks, off my routine, more panic.

I slept 4 hours last night - broken up by an hour of walking around and around the house. Now everything is messed up. No sleep, feel lousy, can't rest.

The illness itself is not nearly as bad as the anxiety/panic that it triggers.

Get well soon. And do try not to panic. That is all the advice I can give you.

I'm suffering from a wicked cold right along with you. And I've had to use my sons asthma inhaler. I don't sleep properly when I'm sick and I get the panic/anxiety. That alternates with depression that seems to come and go off and on all day long. It's been horrible.

Winter really needs to end soon! Hang in there and I'll be thinking about you.

Luckily I am only lightly asthmatic. I can manage with steaming and eating ibuprofen.
And sleeping extra hours.

Thank you.

batista I believe that is very true - you do get more autistic when you're ill. You answered the exact question that I was trying to ask. Thank you.

I have a very good relationship with my medical doctor. I have gone to him for 14 years, most of the time when I worked in IT and had good insurance and would come in with this or that. Through those times I used to bring him in charts. When I had things that could be measured - blood pressure, weight, peak flow meter numbers (for asthma), I started keeping that data every day and then I put it into a spreadsheet and made a bar chart for him. He was stunned. He laughed and said no other patient had ever done this before but it sure was nice because if everyone did this he would have so much more data to go on and make a diagnosis. I always research my illness before I go to him and normally I know what it is and what I need for it and ask him to prescribe the drug that I need.

He and his assistant are very kind and very warm to me and affectionately call me "Doc" as a joke, because I already know the diagnosis.

All that said, today I went to him and I haven't been there in 2 years (thankfully!). Since I was last there I learned about AS. Today I told him I have Asperger's and he didn't know what it was. He wrote it down to learn more. I never know how people are going to take that or if they will treat you weird after you tell them but I thought it was important. He really needs to be educated about autism for the sake of his other patients.

blessedmom I hope you get well very soon. No one likes to be sick but NTs just don't get how deeply, deeply disturbing it is for us. It goes into the area of trauma for me to just be down for a few days with some bug.

I have found the Tylenol Multi-Symptom to be good for relieving most symptoms. For chest congestion, I use Robitussin Chest Congestion with Expectorant (contains Guaifenesin syrup).

Once, when I caught the symptoms early enough, I had good results using Zicam tablets to shorten the cold symptoms to about 1 week instead of the usual 2 weeks.
