So, I'm moving to a new apartment in March with my husband (He has ADHD/Aspergers). I on the other hand have (Autism), just to give everyone a background on "us".

I'm going to be able to have my own little room to escape to. But, I wanted some ideas on what I could put in there. So that when I have a meltdown or need to be alone it will be my own little haven.

I have already thought of making the floor rubber. Target/walmart, sells these rubber pads to put on the floor. I have a computer desk (made of metal and wood) for my computer, and a table for my Legos (I love legos).

So, any ideas, suggestins? Or if you had a haven what would it be like?

Vanilla candles. Tiny refrigerator filled with soda water. Silk pillows. A CD of frogs croaking.

It has a Beanbag and a hanging seat or hammock. A Yoga mat and boots so you can hang upside down. I'm all about seeing life from different angles. Happy days having your own playroom. I must clear mine out and paint it soon. I am planning a wall of 50s pin up girls, and a comfy reading corner.

The most important aspect of a haven for me is that it's very enclosed and comfortable inside. It needs a sort of "den" feel to it. How big is the space you're using? The one thing I would be certain to put in there is a stack of books which are interesting and easy to read when your brain is a bit fried. It might not be the same reading material you'd have the rest of the time. When I'm really struggling I like to look at mail order catalogues.

I like church candles that come in red plastic containers. The light is very soft and soothing. Also church incense.

Fill the room with plastic balls a la Mc Donalds (an expensive but long-time dream of mine), pillows, weighted blankets, shag carpet, a swing, blankets or sheets hung from the ceiling and walls to make it like a fort or a cave, a rocking chair, massagers, stuffed animals.

I have what I need for my ideal pad, I just need some ideas regarding aesthetics.

I have a Simpsons Movie poster, a South Park poster, and a poster that features all sorts of rocks and minerals (I'm a geology major in school).

Perhaps some Claes Oldenburg- or Joan Miro-esque stuff, that would fit in my room.

Or maybe something of my own design (graphic arts is a side interest of mine).

If I could cook Italian food, I would make my pad look like Buca di Beppo (a chain of Italian restaurants found mainly in the Southwestern U.S. and on the West Coast)
