All signs point to Aspie.
Am I an aspie or a HFA?
Results from the Aspie Quiz thing:
Edit- The forum won't let me post images since I just joined, but here are my scores:
Asperger - 119
Social Phobia - 115
Some Background Information:
I have very very low self esteem. I hardly look at myself in the mirror, unless I'm doing something silly
I have spontaneous photographic memory. Certain random moments of my life are remembered very vividly.
I get very nervous when I'm in a huge social setting with unfamiliar people.
I can make friends, but I only stick to a small group of friends.
I'm very good with computers.
I find it hard to look people in the eyes, but I can if the situation calls for it...but the eye contact only lasts for a few seconds.
I really hate social places. I skipped my senior prom because of it, and I don't go out to "hang out" with friends.
I'm a very insecure person and it shows when I meet new people or see some friends on the street.
Whenever someone sees me and says 'hi' and then waves, I lift my hand halfway and mumble a simple 'hi'.
Here's what goes on in my head after that happens:
"Did my voice sound too weird?"
"Did I give off a bad vibe?"
"How were my fingers positioned when I waved?"
"Was the position too awkward?"
"Did he/she hear my hello?"
Then after that, I would just duck my head and walk away in shame.
The same goes for good-byes as well. I would just mumble "c'ya" or "bye" and walk away.
That's why I don't say hi to people when I see them, and they think I'm rude.
I know A LOT!
I watched "The Elegant Universe" on PBS when I was in 5th grade, and I actually understood and enjoyed it.
I am on a constant quest for knowledge. Anything that appeals to me, I will dig very very deep into it.
However, I suck in math. (Go figure!)
Now, my information bank ranges from Quantum Physics to the Paranormal.
But, I usually just stick to myself and keep all the knowledge I have to myself.
An example: My Global Studies teacher was answering a kid's question: "What's string theory?"
He said "If I keep walking into the wall, I will eventually walk through."
I wanted to say "No, sir, you're wrong. String theory is the "theory of everything" which explains the beginnings of our universe...(then I would go on to explain the Brane Theory and the 11th dimension)." but I did not.
I seem to always debate religion with my religious friends, which I usually win...
Sometimes, I cross the line to downright insulting them without knowing it.
I've been living through my life undetected, until my research lead me to autism, and eventually Asperger's.
(Yes, I do research on my own free time.)
After doing some reading on Aspergers and HFA, I started thinking about me, and my life. Then, that eventually lead up to me typing this thread here.
So the question is: What do you think? Am I an aspie?
Also, since I'm already typing this, might as well go on and ask for some advice.
I really like this girl, but I don't know if she's interested or not. My anxiety sets in whenever I'm with her, and I seem to start getting stiff, tense and self-conscious.
I would do anything and everything for her, it's just that I'm too shy and scared to actually go about doing it.
I know almost all females are attracted to the confident male, since it's embedded into our subconscious and genes through the course of evolution that the strong confident male would protect the female and the family. I have very little self-confidence (Unless, I'm joking around. Jokes seem to come natural to me.) and I've tried very hard to do so. I could actually look her into her eyes now, but whenever I do it, she asks if I'm looking at her forehead or something...I guess my gazes are too blank?
Everytime I see her and some other guy talking, I get all depressed. It's not that I'm jealous, I just look at him, then look at me and I start bashing myself and dwelling in self pity.
Well, to end this long post, my age is 14. Don't know if it matters, just throwing it out there.
I'll be looking foward to your insights.

Sounds like you're more obsessed with knowledge itself rather than one specific area of knowlege.
But good to meet you, and welcome to WP!
Thank you for the welcome!
Ha, I guess I am more obsessed more with knowledge itself
I seem to drift from subject to subject in my quest for knowledge. Looks like this week, I'm into the autistic spectrum

I've had almost too many to count, but always a specific area at a time. (Perhaps 2-4 at a time)
At the moment it's:
Psychiatry (Just finished Tic disorders, now on Schizophrenia.)
Pokemon (For the billionth time)
Hey hyzera, followed the thread as best I could.
Also sounds like you could just have gifted child syndrome cohabiting with certain personality traits or even perhaps some personality disorders.
Some questions you might want to ask yourself is:
When you ARE talking to people do you find it easy to understand what the other person is thinking/feeling? When in a debate can you easily gauge and remember that persons knowledge or do you assume (to a certain extent) that they have the same knowledge and thinking as yourself?
Do you get agitated if your routine is broken? Not just HAVING a routine that you like to follow... but if that routine is broken, do you tend to lose track of yourself and can't really function again until things are back in order?
Do you have any sensory "differences"? Do any particular sounds set off a panic type attack (meltdown)? Do you taste certain words? or see colours when you hear certain noises/pitches/passages of music etc? Or get headaches from certain kinds of lighting or coloured lights? Are certain sights/sounds/textures painful? Do you know if your experience of certain textures are different from others?
Do you have the ability to easily gauge another persons emotional state? Do you reflect another person's emotional state? i.e. if your friend is in a bad mood, do you get into a bad mood even if you are happy at the time?
I won't go into fact based thinking style. You obviously have that.
These are only some indicators of an autistic spectrum disorder. Just remember when doing your research Asperger's should be a last resort diagnosis. Explore and research Gifted Child Syndrome (sometimes called Einstein syndrome, but that usually refers to late talkers.) If you are an Aspie (or even if you're not) you're welcome here. I am unsure which "quiz" you are refering to having taken, but remember you can have similar difficulties for different reasons.
I'm sure your excellent brain will guide you to the answers soon enough.
Oh, and welcome to WP.
How reliable? Any numbers? The last time I took it it listed me as a 155 for AS/HFA/PDD, above all the rest. Dyspraxia was my second highest score. However, according to that test, none of my AS traits were high except for AS 'talent', even though my NT score was slightly lower in each category(except for NT hunting, which was also high like AS talent was).
I remember looking at the curves of scores of Aspies and NTs and how they compared, and the NTs that scored in the 150 range for AS/HFA/PDD were at the extreme right end of the NT curve; same with dyspraxia. I wish I had some more numbers pertaining to the data on that site so I could go calculating some probabilities...
When you ARE talking to people do you find it easy to understand what the other person is thinking/feeling?
I don't know, depends on the person.
When in a debate can you easily gauge and remember that persons knowledge or do you assume (to a certain extent) that they have the same knowledge and thinking as yourself?
Well, since my religious "debates" are with the religious people themselves, they always speak from a veil of ignorance since they're not even listening to what I'm saying. An example is this Islamic girl I know. She doesn't care what I say, she'll keep saying "I'm going to heaven" or "I don't care." But come to think of it, I seem to always be the one that sparks the debate.
Do you get agitated if your routine is broken? Do you tend to lose track of yourself and can't really function again until things are back in order?
Well, that's one of the reasons why I don't like going outside and "hanging out". Going outside when I don't need to makes me feel frustrated, and I start whining or talking myself out of the situation. An example was last summer. My parents decided to blow some of our savings by taking the entire family on a 20 day vacation. I fought back (as usual), and I dreaded the day when we had to leave. Once we arrived, I didn't want to go do some "tourist" stuff. I just wanted to go back to my routine of staying inside and going on the computer. I was forced outside (as usual), and I did not have any fun at all.
Do you have any sensory "differences"?
My eyesight is above normal compared to other people, does that count?
Do any particular sounds set off a panic type attack (meltdown)?
I've had a ton of those moments in my life, but they usually occur at night. The thing that makes me feel this sense of panic is a mental picture. The picture is of a gigantic boulder falling on top of a train. The force, destruction, and sound of this mental picture seems to trigger some sort of panic inside me. Another trigger is when I'm half-asleep. This mental image is dark. I don't know what I'm looking at and everything is fuzzy, but here's what I see. I really don't know how to explain it but I see something over-filling, or forcing something huge into a small hole. As I'm recalling this, I can feel that sense of panic and terror I get. I got that feeling again not long ago, when I was standing on my bed and my grandma walked into my room and said something to my sister. For some reason, as I hear her voice while looking down from my bed and the light in my room triggers that feeling.
Another trigger is while I'm lying in bed. I look at a corner in my room, and suddenly I get tunnel vision, and that specific corner zooms in and I get panicky.
Do you taste certain words?
Nope, don't think so.
Or see colours when you hear certain noises/pitches/passages of music etc?
Well, I play the trumpet, and whenever I play and hear a "C" I get a bright golden-yellow picture in my head. What you're referring to here is Synthesia, or the fusing of the senses, which I do not have.
Or get headaches from certain kinds of lighting or coloured lights?
I get headaches when the lighting in my room reaches this certain color which hurts my eyes too. Neon lights at night leave a painful afterburn on my eyes.
Are certain sights/sounds/textures painful? Do you know if your experience of certain textures are different from others?
As stated in the answer about panic attacks, I think very loud noises combined with chaos and destruction are painful for me. Whenever I drop something that I know has a loud sound, I will immediately try to cover my ears.
I don't know if I experience certain textures different from others
.
Do you have the ability to easily gauge another persons emotional state?
I think I can if the person is being very obvious. If they're crying then I'm pretty sure they're sad.
Do you reflect another person's emotional state? i.e. if your friend is in a bad mood, do you get into a bad mood even if you are happy at the time?
Sometimes, for no apparant reason or I fake my emotional state in order to fit the situation (i.e. a funeral) but there could also be a paranormal explanation.
In psionics, if an Empathetic is unshielded, he/she would start getting flooded with emotions from the surrounding people. Sometimes, a normal person (In here, a normal person means anyone that doesn't practice psionics, not just NTs) is born sensitive to empathy. He/she would get sad if they're in a room with a sad person if not shielding correctly.
Also, I would like to add:
Even until now, I still get influenced by people very easily. Like a baby, I act the way I act according to the people I see around me.
For example: After watching Inspector Gadget, I starting saying "wowzers" for over a month and I couldn't stop. Or while I was in China last summer, I started talking differently after spending tons of time with my cousin there. I started talking like her. My vocabulary and way I act change depending on the people I'm around. If I'm around Steven Hawkings a lot, I'll start talking like him (not the synthesized voice). Or, If I walk into a ghetto and start spending my time around people there, I'll start talking and acting like them.
Ah thank you, but I'm not the only here with an excellent brain. Everyone here is. Including you.
