A local city councilman was running for mayor. I had a project I worked on, and it was RUNNING in the late 1980s. A person I met at church told the councilman about it, and he invited me to a meeting to help.
The GOAL? To determine how to properly help the poor and homeless. Let me describe the major players that spoke up:
1. A policeman that CARED that spoke about a family that had a dog and was homeless. He didn't find out about them until it was too late to find a proper place. He especially hated breaking up the family. Some places only accept women, some accept only men, and most don't accept pets.
2. A woman that wanted to find fault with EVERYTHING even when no fault was to be seen. She loved the dougnuts though!
3. A JERK that was NOT there to solve problems, but to try to collect funds(His companies SOLE purpose was to collect funds, AND STATED ON HIS CARDS!) He CLAIMED to want to create a database to help out the above concerns. INTERESTING COINCIDENCE!! !! !! !! READ #4!
4. ME! I ALREADY had a system running 24/7 and was asking ONLY for info. I had to beg borrow and practically steal to get the 400+ records I had. I did it ALL myself and had it running on UNIX. I actually offered my code for FREE to guy #3. He SAID he would take me up on it, but never did.
So WHY do I bring this up? Because autism speaks is like #3, DON'T confuse them with #1 or #4! ALSO be aware that some, or maybe all, of their films focus on people that are like #2!
And, though this sounds like I made it up, I didn't make up one thing.
