Has anyone ever treated you like you were mentally insane because of your Autism? My parents did this in my late teens, it really angers me looking back on it.

Not crazy or at least I don’t think so, but many NTs have treated me as though I’m slow before despite being a college graduate and gradually successfull in my challenging career path.

That sounds very irritating. I was in special needs classes as a young child, I asked my mum to move me to a better school and within a year or two was out of special needs.

Yes, especially if I have meltdowns in public

I had to stay at a psych ward last year because I experienced psychosis as a result of telling my mother about something traumatic that happened to me. Some people witnessed me in that state of mind and thought that I was crazy and too mentally unstable to continue to work my job. I was ostracized at church even worse than I was before I was sick. People haven't looked at me the same since.

I also get treated like a ret*d when someone finds about my autism. People are shocked when they find out about my bachelor's degree and my incredible grades in school. I talk weird and people are quick to assume that I must be in special ed classes and can't take care of myself. These people were in for a surprise when they found out just how wrong they are.

Yes, as a child in the 50's, temperamental and sick in the head according to my mother.
As a young adult, pathetic, not playing with a full deck, and someone to be taken advantage of and made fun of.

No, not because of my autism. People here call me insane and "NUTS NUTS NUTS" for sharing that I've figured out how to treat my autism, though.

Not crazy, but people surely treat me like a child most of the time. Sometimes they feel the need to explain to me even the simplest of matters and my reply to this is mostly just a snappy "You call me smart, yet you explain something to me that i learned before i attended kindergarten? You know that i teach myself neuroscience just for fun, don't you?"

I am fed up with it, really. I tend to not wanting to interact with people anymore when they say things like this to me

Yeah and it annoys me, I sometimes say bizarre things but only as a joke but some people somehow take it seriously and think I'm crazy. It bothers me even more when if anything they should be seen as the crazy ones.

Anyone ever feel like they're a sane person in a crazy world sometimes?

The problem is we defy easy classification. I had a so called school social worker who I now look back on and realize he didn't have a clue about Aspergers who told my parents he thought I was schitzoid.

One thing I hate--my brain is not wired up for being a good speller, and I have always struggled with this. I hate the fact that people will view lack of spelling ability as the same as being stupid and or uneducated.

All the time. Also often get treated like a child. Pisses me off. I treat everyone as an equal and they should treat me like an equal as well.

Aspies also often face work force discrimination, such as being sidelined or denied projects or promotions in spite of demonstrated ability because we subconsciously come off to NTs as childish, strange, etc.

I'm convinced that what we need is an organization similar to the NAACP in the US. How about the WAAA (World Association for the Advancement of Autistics).

I am a humble person so apologies if this sounds narcissistic but even if my intelligence is clearly higher, people, when they know I am on the spectrum just treat me like a moron. Ridiculous and very insulting.

I wish people treated me like I was crazy. I have to tell them I am mentally ill and they often don't believe me, so I don't get forgiven for being anxious. It sucks.
