I have a question. I knew someone once, that was ten years ago, but this person was obviously not NT. And they shared lots of autistic traits.

So I wonder what other disorders there are that are similar to AS.

It should include:
- extreme special interest
- the possibility of being very gifted and doing extremely good in academics
- very good speaking abilities, above average compared to the group
- in all the time the person barely acknowledged the presence of other students
- never seen playing with others, not being able to 'team work' in structured environments such as the classroom
- no sense of when talking is appropriate
- unusual voice melody

I can't think of more right now. All in all, the very appearance is mighty like a type of autism. And it must have been a disorder of types, because the parents and the teacher were well aware of his condition. I was constantly told to stop acting like that person too, so how he acted was somewhat alike to my autistic behaviour to other too.

Are there many things that can be similar to AS? Anybody know? I doubt I'll ever find out, but I want to go through some of the possibilities.

What you described just sounds like AS. SOME might argue NVLD as well, but I think only AS fits. Why do you ask?

If he has all these symptoms then that fits him into the spectrum of autism. However, not each discription in itself labels a person with an autistic disorder. For example, a person who doesn't socialize well might have a small or large case of social anxiety. Just like major depression. Being very gifted or having a high IQ definitely doesn't mean you have Asperger's or autism. Not all IQs match in that category either. There are many people in this world that have high IQs but no signs of autism or Asperger's. If he has more than one of these symptoms, like I said, it definitely points to Asperger's or Autism. I might not have answered your question but there's a lot of things out there that could be related to the autism spectrum like lack of motivation, depression, language delay, fatigue, physically off balance, tremors and seizures, repitious pattern of words, no eye contact, angry outbursts in odd situations, speaking in a monotone, more frustration than explanation. There's a lot. They do all link to the autistic spectrum. I didn't make these up, I got a book on Asperger's. It's helped me learn a lot of why I had been going through what I had been going through. Don't know if this helps.
