I've noticed that while I proabably have SAD, it may actually make me happier. Let me try explaining, I have lots of neurological "issues" (disorders, what have you).

ADD/ADHD
AS
OCD
Hypersensitivity
Tourette's
SAD (un dx'd)

What I've noticed lately is, they have a way of balancing and keeping each other in check. While my possible SAD makes me sad in the Winter, I make up for that by unsupressing the "H" in my ADHD. I let myself loose whenever possible in a mostly verbal way, and it makes me much happier. But I've also noticed that my AS is "disappearing". I can't explain it, but I'm becoming much more socially active; and much more so, adventerous. Not to say my AS is gone, just less noticable. But, because I've unsupressed the "H" in my ADHD, I'm much more Hypersensitive (well, my reactions to unwanted stimuli) and my Tourette's is a bit harder to supress. Basically, I'm more flinchy and have much more dramatic responses to unexpected contact (etc.). The upside to that is, I'm very comical in my reactions. And when coupled with my unsupression of the "H" in my ADHD, I'm a comedic riot. And there's also the wit that comes with ADD/ADHD that makes my conversations more fun. I finally found a way to balance everything. I forgot what OCD entails, so I couldn't tell you how that fits in. I'm just so happy that I've finally worked out a way of balancing all that's "wrong" with me! My actions are becoming less unacceptable every day and I'm finally coming out of my shell. YAY!! !! :P

I'd thought I'd post this here to help encourage and whatever. Maybe others who are comorbid can share how they've found a way to balance everything.

i think i have SAD too, as well as all your symptoms except Tourettes. and i'm ADHD when the H means hypo  cuz that's what i am mostly.

anyways, cool that you've found something that works for you. 8)

i'm always scared when summer ends because i know what winter does to me... the cold and the darkness make me a shivering depressed mess.

like HOW did you do it? tell me please, as i am willing to try just about anything right now.

is Hypersensitivity a diagnose?
i thought it was part of AS.

well i definately have all of the same co morbid stuff, not diagnosed, but it is very aparent that i have lots of stuff "wrong" with me other that AS.

SAD is the worst thing ever, as i live in the middle of nowhere with no street lights, and only the moon and my own mind to light up the "day" in novermber, december and january. Thankfully its not very dark yet, but last winter was a living hell. But might it be possible that since my summer really sucked (anxiety, lots of attacks/fits/meltdowns, depression), could this winter not be as bad? or is it destined to get worse and worse if it is untreated?

Do you think that it is possible that SAD affects us duting the summer to???

well SAD stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder so if you think summer affects you badly then i'd consider that a part of SAD as well. maybe the winter depression takes away from your hyperness but summer awakens it?

*giggles* I'm sorry, I have to say it: does this meant that NT people aren't really normal, they just have equally strong depression and hyperactivity at the same time? *chuckles* Ahh dear, sorry folks!

I don't know how helpful it is to say that SAD could make you hyper in Summer: it's all relative, so you could just as easily say SAD makes you sad in Winter as you could say it makes you happy in Summer.

On that note, it's Spring here now, and despite my fragility, it's awful nice to see a blue sky again! :)

I read people with SAD are manic in the Summer and depresed in the Winter. Luckily, the weather 's been sunny here lately. I just have to watch myself closely during Febuary, worst month of the year for me. I might be getting a girlfriend soon (:D), so hopefully I'll have some emotional support. The best method I've come up with is to stop thinking about what you have and focus more on just living. Quit trying to pin every detail of your personality to a dx, and just be happy you're not completely insane. Think happy thoughts. :P

I was dx'd before AS was recognized and popularized. It was proably a valuable puzzle piece in figuring out what I have.
