Well, I CAN sense the smell of metal when it brns, and often tell you what it is. I don't know if that is what you mean.

I read experiencing unusual smells when there's nothing which could excrete that smell may be a sign indicating epilepsy - one starts to sense some smell like that before the attack.

I can smell certain smells really well.

Probably one of my earliest memories of a panic attack started with a mysterious diesel like smell.

I've heard of other people with panic attacsk/epilepsy having mysterious smells just before like rotting vegetation.

Sometimes I smell weird smell and I'm fine but I'm not sure if the smells are really there.

Also in more recent panic attacks (I haven't had a full blown panic attack for over a year), I've had heightened sense of smell. Like I somebody was cooking something it would become really overwhelming.

I smell the specific type of pizza that was served in the forth grade cafeteria for no reason sometimes.

not lately. Smell is the most evocative of the senses. Usually if I'd smell burning metal, it's probably the brake shoes...;)

When I am feeling destitute I smell Paracetamol. This must hark back to the overdose.

I have a friend that was diagnosed with "manic depression" and she says alot of times just before she goes into "an episode of mania", she experiences the smell of CHalk. I thought that was interesting.. It's kindof like a harbinger (sp?) for a manic episode for her. I asked her if that happens, can she increase the medicine, etc.. and she said it usually doesn't help, that it will happen pretty soon after that sensation... The brain is so complicated and yet fascinating at the same time.. This could be some form of an "olfactory hallucination"? I wonder if any studies have been done on this?
