In a month it will be “autism day”, aptly one day after fool’s day. I would like to invite everybody to organize some happening, some silent but very visible happening, public, on line and on the press. Lectures in the universities, sit ins, letters to newspapers and anything you can propose. You are invited to suggest. We must come out from a miserable clandestine life and let people know what autism is. In this frame I am also very favorable to wearing, we auties, a badge some logo. People who see this on your jacket may ask you what does it mean and everyone may try to explain something of our life. Because no one knows anything about autism. Badges all year long, T shirts, car signs. Proposals are open.

Autism day is for aspies and other spectrum people,as well as Auties,they're including the spectrum.

It isn't that Autism is unknown,but that the autism uneducated think in stereotypes of it,and usually mean classic autism when saying Autism,and some say Autism when they only refer to Aspergers [common on aspie majority forums].
It is a spectrum of different Autisms,it is neither high functioning and successful,nor obvious with profound MR,
it's unclassable as one label because people on the spectrum vary so differently.
It should be treated as the unique experience that it is,and not said to be only represented by either end of the spectrum,as it's not only wrong,it would be ignoring the rest of the spectrum when the chance to really educate the uneducated on Autism is there.

Am not able to get out a lot,but am going to write about Autism,to give to all the staff at home on 'Autism day,and the specialists am have,however little it might seem,getting the Autistics' side across to them when they don't know Autism well will help the Autistic communities cause.

If anyone can think of more- from the home ideas,for Autism day,that don't need verbal use,please post them.

Normally, all they know about autism is that it is a severe condition for the the subjects and their families, but they never have the slightest idea that someone who can talk to them belongs to the same spectrum of severe cases and that people who talk and who have managed to eke out an apparently "normal" living may suffer and may in fact be mutilated in life. Except fo the fact that I live alone that I have always lived alone, no one that is acquainted with me understands why. They think that I am a little weird or a little mad or seriously neurotic. Here psychoanalys has had a nefarious effect, spreading (for now an ineradicable) idea that it is all a matter of family history and of traumas.
