According to Jen Birch:

http://www.aspergers.co.nz/whatIsAsperger.shtml

High anxiety levels may be an almost constant feature for some individuals with Asperger's Syndrome.

So, I thought that I would start a little poll just to see how prevalent anxiety is among us.

I do suffer from a little anxiety, albeit for a really weird reason. I tend to become uneasy from about 5:00-6:30 p.m. (Central Time), when the news is on, and while my family's obsessed with current events/politics, I've actually developed a deep fear of hearing or reading about anything going on in the world. I'm afraid to read newspapers, let alone look at newspaper headlines, online or offline, since just hearing or reading certain things can really make my heart sink or skip a beat or two...

Yep! It was so bad I needed medication for it. It's a lot better now, though I still get antsy every now and then.

I was diagnosed with GAD about 2 years ago and was taking diazepam. Although now I would have to say my anxiety levels are lower and i'm no longer taking medication.

Anxiety is something I struggle with constantly. I remember it becoming noticeable around age 10, and it peaked around age 25 or so. I started on meds at age 30, with desirable results. I'm still on meds, and now have decent control of my anxiety. Some days it's pretty bad, where others are almost anxiety free. Usually about a 50/50 mix of good/bad. Before the meds, it was almost 100% bad. I know the meds just cover up the anxiety, but I'm willing to accept that. It was hell before.

I'm not entirely without anxiety, but thanks to professional help it's greatly reduced. I can function now, at least on my education.

Me too, though I have both depression and anixety. I'm on meds, but they're not working (I think I'm getting tolerant to it), but I can't find my doctor's number to talk about it.

I don't really, but my eleven-year-old cousin was officially diagnosed with it last year.

My social anxiety problem got so bad I couldn't walk down the street. I then got really depressed because hiding away gave me an understimulation/sensory deprivation problem, and then when I was put on the antidepressant Celexa it helped with the depressionb eventually, but right away, within hours of first taking it, it killed the social anxiety. I didn't care any more what people ought. I did what I wanted, as opposed to thinking I was going to get murdwered walking down the street if I looked a little odd/off (I love how when I try to type "odd" I sometimes accidentally type "off" because the F i right next to the D!) I don't know if getting rid of anxiety is a good thing; isn't it the same as survival instinct? I don't know. :)

I suffer from panic attacks. There are a number of things that provoke my anxiety, including:
-filling out forms (including paying bills, depositing checks, etc.)
-unpredictable social situations in which I have to interact with more than one person at a time
-upcoming changes in my life
-school assignments on which I might get a less than perfect score
In addition to the panic attacks, I get a general sense of anxiety, which is sometimes accompanied by insomnia.

Used to get panick attacks, like a couple a day. Diagnosed with severe GAD 3 years ago. It is a living hell. Now it has improved to general uncomfortableness and anxiety. I wasn't made for this world. :? Music helps - "Relax" from Mika is priceless 8)

Until recently, I had SEVERE anxiety problems. On the positive side, a good chunk of that was fixed with Dr. Albert Ellis's REBT. Check it out.

Though one thing my former counselor brought up to me- my anxiety is partly my personality; without it, I might not be as motivated to be everything I can be in life. That's very possible.

On the positive side, as long as I don't screw anything up in most scenarios, my anxiety is at an overall low level.

If I screw something up, I get REALLY anxiety ridden, until I know the outcome.

I'm Dx'd with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder. I had panic attacks about 2 times a month until I started taking Paxil.

I'm diagnosed with SA and GAD, although my SA has improved in general. I think I have a high degree of anxiety because I get constant stream of thoughts that are difficult to control. It is not so much that those are bad in themselves, more the shear volume of them and the randomness of them is overwhelming.
