Getting diagnosed out of state?

My parents are divorced and I'm visiting my dad next week. I was wondering if I could get diagnosed where he lives (Georgia) and bring it back to my doctor here in California. Also, is it a one time thing or is it multiple visits? And would I have to get diagnosed twice then?

I just want a diagnosis, no treatment or anything like that. I'm just hoping maybe I can get some educational accomodations and the like, and some exact information about who I really am.

A dx made in one state should be valid in another state. I see know reason why you would need to dx's. I think what matters more is the amount of time that has passed since dx rather than where it was done.

I will probably take multiple visits and an interview of one or both parents to get the DX however.

You can most definitely seek professional help and advise anywhere you are, regardless of the period of time you're there or where you live, and it's entirely possible that a psych could diagnose you based on one visit if that's what it was limited to and all you wanted was an "unofficial" dx and some guidance on learning about who you are personally.

However, if you want an "official" dx for some outside purpose (especially if you want educational accommodations, which require a certain significant amount of documentation) most likely the diagnosing psych will want to meet over several sessions at least, and perhaps perform a number of tests, so it would probably require more than a week's worth of visits.
