hi everyone
there is a polish aspie forum somewhere in the internet - i am one of the members too. today i came across some interesting conversation - one of the guys wrote about the diagnosis he got from some doctor: [you CAN'T be an Aspie, because Aspies are very autistic and withdrawn, they don't want to socialize and they don't want to be cured...

in fact AS is a new issue in my country, so i guess there are not too many experienced psychiatrists who can diagnose it, but please tell me - my question now goes to officially diagnosed Aspies - do you agree?

Well, you could say I'm withdrawn. I'm just not actively withdrawn. I'm not trying to isolate myself, I just don't mind being withdrawn so I don't really do anything about it. I want to socialize. But I'd just as well rather do it from the comfort of the my home on the Internet than in some pub.

Some aspies want to be cured. Being a spectrum, everyone has different levels of difficulty with ASS, and some people will want to be cured while others think they're fine the way they are. Even someone who appears quite social can have Asperger's Syndrome. I might not be a psychiatrist, but I think it's not a very good reason for not diagnosing someone.

Is it true? No. And that statement that you were given ("you CAN'T be an Aspie") was a load of crap told by someone without any insight.

Example: My diagnosed aspie friend has a WAY larger sociallife than i have, her social skills are seen as normal.

Having Aspergers/HFA is not as clear as having a broken bone or having cancer where there is clear undisputable evidence of it. The reverse is also true; Either you have a mild autism - or the opposite. There is no high functioning broken bones or low functioning deadly diseases.

Thats why the wikipedia article on AS/HFA says "Some individuals" or "Many individuals..." or "a few individuals..." and not "Everyone".

I have no social skills... but I would like to have at least a little. I am not worried though- I tend to find people who are a lot like me or have similar like/dislikes. I think the statement is bull though.
