Working with ASD people

wonder if any one can help me out, i did not no what i wanted in life but now i do i want ot work with children with ASD's but i have no idea how to go about it, i want to start of volantory work so see how i go as i have AS myslef any one have any ideas how i can do this?

Well I would recommend starting by volunteering for the NAS befriender scheme in your area. That would probably give you an idea of what it is like to be responsible for an ASD child. The brefriender scheme is not exclusive to children and families though much of them are.

For reasons that are too detailed to go into here it isn't quite like being a career or indeed a friend in the conventional sense. However if you do it that will give you a good idea if you want to continue with as a befriender or expand you training. However befriending in itself caries substantial responsibilities and implications, so it is not a mock test. Please note I have only just begun with this, but pm me if you want to know what to expect.

Another thing you should do is try going/arranging meet up with adult on the spectrum. These tend to be higher functioning individuals as everybody is responsible for themselves. But it is good for social experience.

Go to the elementary schools in your area and start talking to them about volunteering. Check upon the rules and regulations in your area concerning required training to become an aide (teachers assistant, or aide, however defined in your state/community.) Check with your local community college or vocational college for classes in general teachers aiding.
