I've finally officially diagnosed myself as having aspergers (or at least least an aspergers-like syndrome, possibly NOS). I had to make the diagnosis myself because I was so sick and tired of getting lame diagnoses from these doctors who I myself had to teach about Aspergers. I literally knew more about aspergers than these doctors knew (I think that some of actually never heard the term before). I'd get diagnoses like social anxiety disorder (which IMO is a BS diagnosis, just a fancy name for extreme shyness), Obsessive compulsive disorder (I believe that this is probably a co-morbid problem of mine but not the ONLY thing I have), General anxiety (this was probably diagnosed because the doctor was being lazy and just wanted to prescribe some pills).... The list goes on and on. IMO most doctors (not all) are a bunch of jackasses who should lose their jobs and get booted on the street. This is MY life. You shouldn't have some guy tell you something he thinks you have when he has no damn clue at all, and on top of that give you useless expensive pills that have a 50% chance of making you worse off. I'd love to say this to doctors... WE DON'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT THE HUMAN BRAIN YET TO PUT PEOPLE ON THESE PILLS. What we know about the human brain so far is stuff the nazis learned while doing experiments on jews brains during the holocaust (a disturbing but true fact) most of the rest comes from doing experiments with mice. Since I was a kid I've always been able to see through things that most people can't. I can tell when things are phony/corrupt and I'm never wrong because I see things the way they are meant to be seen. This is how I know the drug companies/most doctors are phony, I can see right through phony things. My "problem" enables me to unlock these filters that most human being have, it gives me the ability to see through most everything and get a "true" image of everything. Do most of you aspies feel this way as well or is this only me?

Anyways, I'll quit ranting about how I loathe MOST doctors/drug companies but I felt it was important for most of you guys to know the truth about drugs, and how a lot of diagnoses out there are phony. Currently (and when I was in highschool) I COULD always hold a perfectly fine conversation with someone and even enjoy it, but I was always tense/nervous. I even managed to have a lot of friends (over 10 friends, which is quite good I'd say for an aspie). I think if I could only get past the anxiety I would be fine, but I don't know if there are ways to get past this. Screw the stims, screw the obsessive behavior (I CAN overcome this if I put my mind to it), screw ALL the other awful symptoms of aspergers... How do people overcome anxiety? Also, the only time I feel anxiety around people is when I HAVE to socialize with them, I do not feel much anxiety around people when I don't have to socialize with them. Is this the case for most of you aspies? Let me know please. Thanks.

(Thanks to all you people who take the time to read all I have to say)

You're right on the mark about docs :) My diagnosis is social phobia, extreme anxiety disorder and some other garbage. I also am educating my doc about aspergers. He now agrees that I may have some aspie like traits. At least he's finally willing to admit that much.
Currently, I am on an antidepressant and risperidone (it's a anti-psychotic. but after I did some research, I found that it's also used for autism and the irritability that goes with it). I am on the lowest dose possible and it seems to be helping with my anxiety more than just the antidepressant.
I think the problem with most docs is that aspergers is a new arrival to their diagnostic book of psychiatry (1994 is when it was listed). My doctor told me that he's never had such a deep conversation with someone with aspergers. Well, that's because most the people he's been around with it that have been officially diagnosed is a kid. I'm 47.
We do learn.
I also feel anxiety around people especially if I have to socialize with them. Although, just having to be around a lot of people very long stresses me out. That's why I work part-time. Full-time was too much. Too many people in my space.
I don't know if this helps. Thank you for sharing.

lol! :D

But, i agree with you patrick (thread starter)

I bet you can "see trough things" more than the average person can. Its cause you're smart....

Doctors are also just humans, and many times they are not very good.

So I agree mostly with what you wrote, I do, for sure.

I worry about the effect of pharmies on people..
I've taken them before, and they made my
problems a lot worse- as well I kept growing
immune to them.
