If you snuggle your face into the fur of a pet or, alternatively, into the chest of another person, is that somehow inappropriate? Do other people do this or do they have a reason not to?

I received some funny comments for it and I never saw someone else do it.

Does anyone else here does this?

Its ok to snuggle your face in a dogs tummy.

I tried doing it to the cat once but he didnt like it. A shame as he has such a fluffy white tummy.

You have to be careful doing this with cats, it is quite hazardous with all those claws near your face and eyes in particular.

I apologise if anyone found my last post nauseating.

I put my forehead on people I care for, and I leave it there; I rarely hug people. Is this what you mean?

I think it's an autistic thing as I haven't seen anyone else do it, and my mother hasn't seen anyone do it either.

When talking about snuggling people, it depends on your relationship to them, and where you are. A perfect stranger, no way! Boy friend/girlfriend sure, just make sure it's mostly private, some people are offended by public displays of affection. Parent? I'm sure there are some families that are close enough at 19 to still do that. (just don't try it with mine.)

Pets: your pet, sure. A stranger's pet? I wouldn't attempt it. Family or close friends pet, most likely fine as long as the animal is comfortable with the contact.

Snuggling is seen as a display of affection and security. (and of course it feels nice.)

Hope I answered your question, oh and yeah, i agree with zen_mistress there, watch out for claws. It all just depends on how close a relationship you have with people or their pets.

You know, I was just snuggling my son and was thinking about this.

I forget what it's called but animals do it. Cats like to do it because they leave their scent behind.

When I am feeling close or affectionate to a family member (human or animal) I love to smell them, and rub my face in their hair or in their fur.

When I'm unhappy with a family member I do not want to smell them. At all.

I have a very sensitive nose :)

But yes I love the warm furry natural smell of my dogs and the kind of smelly in a toddler way smell of my son.

When I do it, it almost looks like animal. I have never recieved negative comments, but I only do it in private (as it is a very naked gesture of affection for me) and as I am a girl (which makes it more 'cute' and less 'weird' I think).

My husband and I do the gentle affectionate 'headbutt' as well.

:D

My labraboxershepard does this after we roughhouse. She walks up to me and gently lays her head on my knee or chest, and breathes deeply in and out. It is so moving emotionally to see her do this.

I put my forehead on people i care for too, or lean my head on them. Most people are head and shoulders taller than me, so its easy to headbut them on the shoulder. If we are talking spouse, well he is taller than me and i love to rest my head on his chest. shirt or no shirt. I definitely like to smell him too.

My cats are much the same. i nuzzle with them nose to nose and headbutt foreheads. Each cat has its own smell. One reminds me of cinnamon buns, one is sweet like strawberries or cotton candy. one reminds me of flax, and one smells like sweet alfalfa hay. cant beat the smell of kitty cat scalp.

of course I resist doing that with other peoples' cats. Some people are touchy about that. I just pet those and let them sit on my lap.

Not the same with dogs.... i like them, but the way they smell is too much for me.

In my house the act of putting one's forehead against someone else's forehead, then gently moving your head back, and forth is called forehead kisses. I guess that I've never thought about it before, but my NT daughter has never once done this with me, but my ASD sons do all the time.

I also love to rub my face against my husband's face after he has shaved. It just smells, and feels so wonderful.

I love doing this to my pets...and my NT partner does it too. My children, one NT and one AS do it, too. We also rub cheeks as well. It's what the cats do to us to scent us.

I don't know who said it...but cats do smell yummy. My partner and I are always close like that. I don't do it with anyone else though, not even my mother...a short hug is all we'll do.

I only see young couples doing stuff like that. I think it's a private affectionate action.

I like a lot of different textures against my face...much more then my hadns which are hyper sensitive to many "feels".I love rubbing my head against animals fur(I work with dogs)..they seem to like it to and respond better to me then many humans'

I also like the playful headbut to the chest, like my cats do to me to say hello..I have to be careful with my BF though because he s very very hyper sensitive to all touch....sometimes that sucks.

I don't so this with anyone else though but have had an AS friend do it to me and I like it.

I don't do much hugging (Because people suck at hugging right) but I like placing my forehead on the shoulder or chest of my father, brother or best friend. I don't do it with anyone else though as I figure that wouldn't be as comforting.

I abselutely love "snuggeling" into the fur of my cats, and my cats seem to like it too, the fealing of fur against my face combined with the cat-smell is the most calming thing in the world to me.

Thank you all who replied up to now.

I usually snuggle my cat's fur - he won't scratch me - because he's got the most amazing fur ever! And I like to bury my face into my pillow, my hands or a book (which is, no doubt, a little hard and itchy) too.

Admittedly, I've also done it with other people's pets before, when I could not remember that it might be odd. I know not to do it with other people, I did it when I was younger and learned that it was very very inappropriate early. My family is the epitome of good manners and social rules, it's insane.
But I haven't yet thought about that it might disturb another person if I snuggle their pet in a too intimate way! I feel kind of stupid now, boy, this is embarrassing. I do feel bad if someone touches my pets too much. So it makes perfect sense others may just see it the same way as I do.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this too. I received some very dirty looks about it as if I had missed out something. I was already wondering whether it might be disgusting or not hygienic. Got worried there for a minute...

I've always done things like these though too!

When I was little, I usually did the 'Eskimo kiss'. That's what my grandma called it anyway. We usually rubbed our noses against each other instead of welcoming and good-bye hugs, kisses and other kinds of more typical affectionate gestures.

My son does that. He will also rush up to me and headbutt me in the tummy or chest. It flipping hurts!! !! ! He likes squeezing his head in between me and the back of the couch too.

I would agree that it is not disgusting nor unhygienic, just considered a very intimate action. Maybe whatever looks you received were the types of looks one gets for public displays of attention.
