Do other people here enjoy replaying video games over and over even after you’ve completely mastered them?

I remember when I was younger I used to play some video games in a ritual way. I found it enjoyable to go through a game from start to finish in a very particular way. Most of the games I was obsessed with I would beat several times going through the various objectives in the exact same order.

I have certain "rituals" while playing games. In MMOs I will HAVE to clear an area of quests before I move on. If there are 3 NPCs handing out quests, I have to do all three of them. I guess it's like an OCD thing.

I am very overemotional to games with good storylines. I will often get caught up and forget that they are just pixels on the screen. In RPG games like Knights of the Old Republic, I always had to do the right thing. My few NT friends that I hang out with online were always bragging about how they played through the game on the dark-side. I tried to do it, but I couldn't. I was way overemotional about it, and it's become somewhat of a ritual for me to ALWAYS have to be "good" in these games, or else I get stressed out.

I'm now trying to reduce my gaming to a minimum as I'm very easily addicted.
I've always had alot of quirks that showed themselves in replay circumstances:

- Contra: had to celebrate by jumping and/or shooting in a specific pattern according to the boss I just defeated.
- "Tactics" RPGs: I still play them for hours with the sole purpose of creating the ultimate party - not in raw power as much as in artistic value; for example in Tactics Ogre I have an undead platoon with every character sharing the same name - much like the Pain character in the Naruto manga.
- FPS games: I have to kill every single enemy and steal every single item, weapon, ammo cartridge, etc. . .

Some of these obsessions have luckily become weaker over time.

Yeah, I've replayed some things a little too much.
I've found it easier to replay my old school favorites on the SNES, Sega, and GBA ever since I modded my PSP -- which has done nothing to decrease my addiction.
Shining Force 2 -- Sega: Just gotta get all the secret weapons.
Pokemon -- GBA: Just gotta catchem all.
Halo -- Xbox: I have to revisit all the easter eggs.
Wowcraft -- CP: Lvling my 3rd character to 70.
To name a couple.
Games dont get repetetive if they're good.
I'm only concerned when I get struck by a moment of de ja vu.

And good story lines? Dont get me started. Rather than replaying them over and over, I just buy the game sountrack, and as I'm listening my mind fills in all the cinematics and dialogue. Even the most mundane details are easy to remember clearly if it really good.

with WoW i level one character at the time and jump to another level that one, jump back etc
is this a ritual ? maybe...replaying things i didnt do much because i already saw it , maybe for a different outcome but i only stick to a ritual for World of warcraft

When I was younger and had more time I was a bit like that. I recall playing FF II, FFIII, Chrono Trigger over and over several time and doing things the same way every time for the most part.

Doesn't happen anymore. Mainly I just don't have the time to replay a big game(sometimes not enough to finish them)

When it came to RPGs on the SNES and PSone I would keep playing until I have masterd everything and gotten every item. The main games that I have everything 100% is Chrono Trigger, FFVI, FFVII, Parasite EVE 1 and 2 and Final Fantasy Tactics.

I would say that Final Fantasy Tactics took the longest to do because I learned every job and ability for every character, plus they where all at level 99.

In my case, not if the game takes too long to complete. I usually get bored midway.

I'll play each game through completely maybe once a year? Only if I like it though. And in no ceratin way really.

I don't think that's actually so unusual.

I do with many games I play old and new. When I play Resident Evil for example, I always use the same weapons on the same enemies in the same rooms and use the same amount of ammunition every single time I play.

Mostly when I was a kid on NES and Genesis because we were poor and those were the only games I had. However I do repeat favorites even now. Some of the ones I repeated are Final Fantasy VII (3 times at least), Final Fantasy IX (twice), Final Fantasy X (twice), Final Fantasy Tactics (twice), Kingdom Hearts (3 times), War Craft 3 (twice). I fully intend to play all of these and a few others again.

I usually play all games over except RPGs. Except I've played through Mario RPG about three times.

For the Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney games, I'm inexplicably terrified of getting "game over", so I always play with a walkthrough.

For GTA games, I always kill as many people as possible, get my Wanted level as high as I can and try to evade the cops for as long as I can. I never do any missions.
