What should I expect from further testing for my son--it's an observation and review of records by school's outside psych.

I don't want IEP ammended--and will fight to keep it preserved. I don't want any other labels either.

Anyone have any experience. He's currently labeled autism on IEP. This is fine. I feel anything else that crops up can fall under this category as well.

Any ideas/opinons/personal experiences?
(this is requested by school due to son's intrusive thinking and we are new to school)

Often testing is requested when a student with an IEP comes to a new school. I can't speak for you school, but it doesn't necessarily mean they will want to change anything. Good luck!

i know i had to have my iep re-evaluated every three years. none of the appointed psychs were interested in shaking things up. :)

I'm worried they think he's nuts. He gets weird thoughts (but he's able to manage them except for this one time) and I don't think they completely understand his pattern of thinking.

He has fears and has to, lately, tell me every fear. Well, he told the school pscyh and now they want further evaluation. I know my son well and he was concerned enough about his own thinking. Worst thin gyou can do is make him think he should be concerned (you see what I mean)??

I've worked with him and I reassure him and then he's fine--the fear dissipates. If you start probing--who knows.

I don't trust pscyhs. (as you probably noticed)

Sorry, Erin. I know you're not. I guess I'm worried about shaking things up.

My son can sense when something is being mechanically driven and when an outsider is introduced, he might reacte negatively due to anxiety. This is an outsider, not part of the team he just spent 2 months getting used to. This is what I don't like about it. He's been doing wonderfully. I guess with this new side of my son they want to ensure they are covering all the bases (or cta's).

My son has moved forward, why can't they? He's quirky, odd, and it's to be expected. Now, lets get on with business as usual. Bringing in someone else and making him go through the interview etc, will just introduce anxiety and make him mistrustful (I think). My son is extremely astute and complicated.

thx for the post (again-please don't take offense...psychs do work in some cases, but I think it's overdone in many cases)

Oh, it's fine. I'm not offended. Now if I were the reason you were somewhat mistrustful of psych's then I might be offended, but I don't think I've ever met you. So, it's okay. Counseling has a way of stirring up repressed feelings. The idea, is that you stir them up, deal with them appropriately and then truly move on. However, if one can only get so far as to stir them up and then not move through it and learn from it, then it may not be helpful.
