I don't know if it's because of my aspergers or not, but I really hate eating food that a stranger cooked. If I go to a restaurant and don't actually see the person cook the food, or if it's a close family member who's cooking the food, it isn't as bad. I just hate it when I am at a stranger's house when it's supper time and they ask me to stay for supper. I'll usually stay to not be rude, even though I don't really want to stay. There's this fear of finding hair in my food that really bothers me. All it takes is one hair to be in my food and I instantly lose my appetite. A few times while staying at someones house for supper this has happened to me and I felt like throwing up while finishing up the food. What usually happens is I'll start to gag right after taking my next bite of food, immediately after noticing the hair. I have been like this my entire life. The only time I can fully enjoy a meal is when I cook it myself, it tastes so much better then. I've noticed that I'm like this with other things than just food. I just love doing things myself. When I was a kid I remember hearing stories about people at restaurants putting weird things in food if they had a bad day or just as a prank or whatever. These stories didn't help my problem much. To me, things (not just food) get "contaminated" when other people touch them or move them. This might be OCD or it might be Aspergers, I am not sure.

I'm a little funny about food anyway. I don't like to eat in the same room with other people, or at other peoples' houses. Or at any place that smells funny. I've just always been weird that way.

I seldom eat out for this reason. If it's someone I know, I'm not too bad with it, but I really don't care for restaurants.

Is this problem due to having OCD? Or Aspergers?

its something you will have to learn to adjust to, most restaurants are going to have certain health issues. Thats just a chance your going to have to take, not all food has been prepared in a sterilized hospital lab. You may miss out on some great food, by not trying some new ethnic restaurant.
On a side note, I avoid hospital food, the meat always tastes weird, I think thats where all the used body parts go, so avoid the Beef Stew, Its made out of People!

Oh...so NOW you tell us. Mad Human Disease.

At my lab the water coolers have been empty for days and days. But I always was drinking water from the tap. I 'found out' this week the tap water from my lab is NOT drinkable! Or at least not condusive to good health. Geez.
Lab Pet has Denge Fever (possible). I hope I'm raging contagious.

Just don't trust anything edible unless it comes sterilized or with lots of preservatives. I'm rather particular. So is my cat, Tesla.

I'm like KingdomOfRats, I won't eat food prepared by anyone other than what I'm used to, i.e., routine.

I don't fear contamination, I just cannot eat it.

Oh, I had to stay in the hospital for a week once. At first, they had me on an "all liquid diet". It was funny - I don't eat meat and I'm allergic to tea, so every day, they brought me two kinds of meat broth, regular tea, and an energy drink containing tea. They wouldn't give me solid food until they saw that I was consuming all the liquids they gave me so I would flush it all down the toilet.

When they started giving me regular food, I told them I was vegan because I thought they'd just give me fruits and vegetables, which wouldn't be so bad. Instead, they didn't seem to understand what "vegan" meant and they gave me really weird things like pancakes covered in liquid cheese. Fortunately, I had a boyfriend who would sneak food in for me.

I don't even know if hospital kitchens know how to make a proper vegan diet, they must not have had a dietitian on staff.
That pancakes with cheese liquid, doesn't sound very tasty, I like cheese and I like pancakes, just not together. I would be ordering out alot

I've never been like that. Better a stranger cooking it than me. :D

I am usually reluctant to eat anything other than my mom's food. She is the best cook, in my opinion, and I feel comfortable with her food. I don't think I could do as well. Lately, the food at restaurants has been disappointing at best, downright horrible at worst.

I don't have a problem with a stranger cooking it really. What bothers me is someone cooking that has a track record for bad food. Like a co-worker at work, he brings in pasta salads mostly, and it almost always has hairs in it. He has lots of cats. So I won't eat what he brings in.
