Okay, I am interning in a Special Ed classroom. The teacher was organizing an event for autism. She asked me if I wanted to help out and i agreed, partly because i had nothing to do that day and part because i have trouble saying no. So time passed and it was time for the "Jump for Autism". I went to it thinking it was gonna be a ASpeaks mentality event, a autism pity party if you will. Well I got there, got assigned a station ( bounce house monitor). It was a pretty fun. I was rather surprised as the event was more focused on awareness and acceptance ( as per the banner on the door).
My question, is this type of event common, or is this like an isolated incident? Are awareness and acceptance events the norm or are there events focused mainly on curing autism and finding something to blame?
