Recently since I got dignosed, and i've been telling my close friends and family.
At lot of the response has been anoyingly "Well you must have it mildly!"
or "You're very mild"

I guess I should be taking this as a compliment that I seem to have ajusted enough to fit in, but these are people who have known me my life and they cudnt take a step back and really look at me.

But it also makes me wonder if its because there ingnerant of Aspgers and when I tell them intantly think of some autistic kid they met and thought maan he's strange.
The one's who have met AS people was one guy and its diffrent in girls and guys thats why girls are harder to dignose because they hide it better.

The professionals who dignosed me (2 of them) never used the word mild, they said comunications disorder otherwise known as high functioning autism or AS.

Does anyone ever do this to you?

People say that ALL the time about my daughter. Most people are unaware I have it. It's frustrating to me because they don't have any grasp for the intense internal struggle of it. Outwardly we can function extremely well in many situations, but what we're struggling through inside is entirely a different story. I've considered assembling little info packets for the people who need to know of my daughter's AS so they have a better understanding (i.e teachers, gymnastics instructor, etc.). AS makes you appear normal enough that people just assume you're being beligerent, anti-authority or just plain disagreeable and not listening. Sigh. So much of my childhood I was accused of these things.

My outward symptoms may seem mild, but my meltdowns are still Hell on Wheels.

Generally when they're saying that they mean because their stereotype of the whole thing includes not being able to speak or write at all, possibly not even being able to think.

It's a way of reconciling stereotypes in their head, rather than admit the stereotype doesn't work they create a new one.

wow, people always say that I have it mild. I've always just assumed that I did have it mild. :S I wonder if there is such a thing as mild AS in the first place!

im beginng to think there may only be 3 things, autism, mild autism (asperger's) and possibly AS traits in other members of the family due to enviorement learning. (meaning they grew up with there mum with AS treating them a certain way so they learnt how to do it the AS way)

People are just ignorant like that.

if the only person an ignorant met with some disability was affected severely or mildly, they're going to assume that is the standard.
unless they are the ones controlling support, therapies, accomodations, benefits whatever-their ignorance should be ignored.

though it isnt just some NTs who judge someone on the spectrum like that,it can go from ASDer to ASDer.

I think people in general must just be ignorant. I know I am :D about a lot of things. But then you can't blame them too much; it would be improbable to know everything about everything. The important thing is that we educate. :D

I never tell anyone about my AS because I know they wouldn't believe me. People attribute my behavior to meanness and a desire to offend, not to any different brain-wiring. It'd bother them no end to admit I'm just different and not be able to blame me. I wish I could tell them about AS, but they'd say I'm making excuses for my behavior. The only person I told was my therapist, and her reaction sufficed for me.

I'm sorry :S

most people here are very ignorant of Autism. They define AS as "Specter" and leave it at that xD

I've tried telling some people, but they either tell me that all I really need is a good therapist, or they start trying to analyze my behaviour, and I start feeling like I have to convince them or they'll think I'm crazy... Do I really need to go into extreme detail the steps I have to go through to manage social interactions? Sheesh.

People aren't usually aware much until they get to know me more. Most people I've met doesn't even know what aspergers is and some will ignorantly claim it's just an excuse for not fitting in.
