I mean, when you post do you take in mind that there are kids as young as 11 years old reading you? And how does that affect your posts?

I sometimes think of it because I met Smelena in London and she talked about her boys and said they were members of WP.

My own children are in their late twenties so I am out of that way of thinking now and I tend to forget that we have a wide variety of ages and backgrounds etc but I hope I am always respectful.

I agree. If you wish to post profanity, do that at another forum. I myself am 15, and am OK with profanity, but that is why I belong to other, adult networks. I leave my profanity at the door.

I wouldn't censor content for children, that is something parents should do for their own. How am I supposed to know what other parents would find inappropriate for children to see or read about?

Mage, you think a lot like my friend, who has Asperger's too. You think that you should be put before others, so if a child comes along, you should be able to cuss, and if the kid does not like it, then you say that the parents should put a censoring filter on. But in my opinion, this forum is not just for adults, but for everyone, and should be used as a more professional kind of place, so that anyone can come in, get support, and other such stuff without having to worry about their kid seeing stuff they don't need to see.

I am happy to have kids on WrongPlanet, know that they are probably more than mature enough to handle the different topics on here and more than intelligent enough to respond to them, and am glad they've found a place where they are both happy and safe.
I think that strong profanity, really "adult" topics, and anything sort of 18A-rated should be kept to the Adult, Adult Life and Haven forums - and those are probably not places that kids should be; nor places they'd be interested in being. Other than that, I think the forums are open to everyone (save the age-specific ones, of course).

The kids are all right topic

I know of one 9 year old here (who has gone on to form his own website that kids can join) whose mother would only let him read Kid's Crater and Random Discussion. Certain forums here have age restrictions. I find there is a lot of profanity that I myself would not use, even if it is semi-bleeped out. Profanity used violently and repeated bullying are grounds for banning. The moderators can be contacted regarding breaches of proper language conduct.

I don't cuss because I am for the most part polite in all my posts, not because I know there are kids present.

I do, especially since in the past one of Smelena's kids was playing one of the games I was! It was a harmless alphabet game, but still there are also teenage kids here and I don't want to be a bad influence! In general I don't post anything I wouldn't want my kids to read!

Yes it was :D

Smelena joined us at an aspie meet in the Science Museum. There must have been towards ten of us at some point and instead of going round the Museum, we all sat talking before we set off... and sat talking... and sat talking some more until I got hungry and begged to go for tea  then we went to little chinese buffet in a basement restaurant and six of us that were left sat on a round table (perfect) and talked some more and ate lots of yummy food. It was great :D

I think it helped Helen to sit and listen to firsthand experiences of us as adults and see that we have all survived and hear that each of us is doing our best with our lives.

Sorry to talk about you Smelena behind your back as it were

I don't see how profanity causes harm to children. I do not use much at all but that is just because i don't like it. There is an adult section for topics that children probably shouldn't see. I just do not understand how seeing a letter or two and a few *'s is a serious concern for anyone. Especially when you look at all of the propaganda, racism, sexism, and other problems that every child in the US will face every day of their lives.

Smelena seems nice, so I'm sure she won't mind. :D

Well, LUCKILY, I don't swear, etc.... anyway.

But, from an innocence standpoint, I feel we should treat 17 year olds the same as 5 year olds. DON'T misunderstand me! I am NOT saying talk down to them, or that they are stupid, but merely treat them as if THEY don't know about such garbage, and try to keep that garbae away from them, even though most probably know about it, etc....

Yeah. I'm used to being mindful of stuff to say around little kids, seems how I live with my 2 year old nephew and year old niece. >_>

Besides, whenever I wanna talk about adult issues, I'm old enough to use the Adult forum, so... yeah.

I'm 17 years old, and I know all there is to know about "adult" things. :? Heck, my brother is 13 and he knows as much as me!
