You are a racist said one of my workmates to another, though it was out of jest.
It was a great opportunity to say what I think about how it isn’t good to guess what a person is thinking.

I said,”If someone is being told he is racist when he isn’t , he cannot respect you for it as much as he would if you told him his choice of wards are racist and that he should f** stop it.”

Being miss understood is a major grief of mine. Being told you have characteristics that you don’t have or badly understood. Generally, the time amount of time that my integrity was doubted, I find it hard to believe they think I have an innocent nature. I don’t mind being given a hard time so long as it isn’t based on some false understanding of me.

I've seen a few posts of Aspies not liking people thinking they have an innocent nature. Even though most of the time I wish I could quit cursing all the time and being so cynical, I guess that keeps me from having the innocent label. Maybe your response to their joke contributes to that perception?

I'm not racist. I think that people of all colours are beautiful.

Reading some of your posts, I can see how people would get that idea, to be honest. I wouldn't presume to say that you are or you aren't. Often times, people are misunderstood when speaking of their previous experiences, and people are listening without getting the context straight.

Any judgment based on a person's racial characteristics can be considered racist, just as broad generalizations of a race can be. The problem here, I believe, is that when we speak in terms of our experience with people of a different race, it is not necessarily being racist, but making an observation based on your experiences - that stated, if a person does not hold their own judgment as being an overall characteristic of a race, they can't be considered racist... it is a thin line, though.

I am sure everyone has made a judgment like that from time to time, no matter what your colour, class or creed. Could be based on inexperience with a large cross-section of a given race, or really bad luck in what a person has experienced.

With the way the world is, and how people are presented in the media, it can be a hard thing to do.

I just don't understand racism, in general. What does skin colour really have to do with the way people interact, how smart they are, or what their potential is?

Now there goes a racist stereotype even though it's a positive one. BAsketball? Sheesh! LOL!

Ok, racism cuts close to home for me. I am caucasian and have adopted 2 black children and am in the process of adopting a multiethnic baby right now. Race was never an issue for me. I wanted children to love and give a good home. I knew there were a lot of children out there in foster care who need homes. A child is a child in my book. I have family members who had a problem with this. I'll just say that I grew up in a pretty racist religion and all my family members are pretty much still members. I left their church after doing some research and deciding that I could not support a racist organization that has not even apologized for it's overt racism in the past and prevailing attitudes and doctrine that still promote racism. Suffice it to say that our families are not happy with us for leaving their religion.

I have family members who keep telling my 5 y/o son that he's gonna grow up big and tall and be a basketball player. If he was a white child, they wouldn't be telling him that. It bothers me. Why not tell him he's going to grow up to be a doctor, a lawyer, a computer programmer like his dad, etc?

Disg-racist topic

Aspie_Chav, did someone else call you a racist in addition to you witnessing someone call someone else a racist? There are workplace laws to rectify hate manifested at work.

The workplace is a whole other universe.

The point I was making is one should not make out that they can read other peoples mind. They should instead let them be aware of how they behaviour.

Some of my workmates say I am bigheaded and use it to biggup myself. The stuff they come out with is out of the blue comparing me to someone who I am not. If it was true I would buy a more expensive car, fancy clothes and never ask question in fear of sounding stupid.

What is the difference between questioning the methods of people of intelligence and statues like Doctors and people are expert in their field and questioning high status moral one like the Archbishop.

I'm equal-opportunity when it comes to misunderstanding people...;) I do tend to put a 'filter' over my speech, depending on what group I'm talking to. But I try hard not to be racist...

I was accused of being a racist at work, once a long time, ago. I was surprised that someone would call me that, and I was dwelling on it, until I got sick and depressed, a year later. I had to keep telling people that I'm not racist. That was one of the many things that I wished that I would have brought up with my shrink, when I was still seeing her.

LOL! This topic is so funny...if you read the first post by Aspie_Chav properly, the post is NOT about racism!! !! ! It's about how it's difficult for us to guess what a person is thinking, and that a workmate accused another workmate of being racist as an example. Yet almost everyone who has posted, thinks this thread is about racism...therefore missing the point...which is what the thread was about in the first place - being misunderstood!! Too funny!! !

Lauchlin and sartresue: Aspie_chav said that a workmate said it to another workmate...not that someone accused him/her of it!! !

Ok well it looks like I'm the only one who understood the topic of this thread. To answer your question, yes I get misunderstood a lot. I don't always use the correct facial expression or tone, sometimes people think I'm being sarcastic when I'm not, serious when I'm being sarcastic, think I don't like them when I really do...sometimes like you, I'm accused of thinking or feeling a certain way that is simply not true!!
