In my class I had a bunch of curebies get angry at my for saying I was anti-cure. I think, as someone that could be personally effected by such a thing, my opinion should probably carry more weight. It is like men making the abortion ruling. I think people not personally involved should not have a say in something like that.

They also said "that is like saying we shouldn't cure cancer." I think people need to be more understanding about what they do. Not more understanding, but understand more what their decision does.

Does anyone, in these decisions, ever consult the people that are effected? Maybe democracy is a failure for real.

So you're ok with it if the mother kills your children? I guess sober people shouldn't make laws against drunk driving either.

Back to your main point: Ask the "curebies" if they are willing to volunteer for brain surgery? How about them taking experimental drugs? I say don't mess with God's handiwork unless theres overwhelming reason for it. Do any of your "curebies" have wrinkles, birthmarks, a big nose, etc. Tell them you MIGHT listen to them after they get plastic surgery to take care of their deficient looks! :cyclopsani:

I'm against abortion, myself. I feel that every baby who's conceived has the right to be born into this world.

I hate people like that. I'm tempted to ask those people that question, myself.

Technically, any potential cure will be tested on healthy (NT) volunteers before being marketed to treat Autism. It's part of the phase 2 of clinical trials, where they try to spot adverse reactions in humans.

Picking on people's appearance is just bullying and would not be an acceptable argument in a debate.

I hope that a cure is never developed. A person's genetic makeup should not be tampered with, and besides, we're not broken or defective.

Why on earth would a proposed 'cure' for Autism be tested on NTs first? What would that prove?

Looks aside, perhaps a better analogy would be: "Let's say those of us around you have decided your sense of humor is dumb, so we're going to force you to take this pill or submit to that surgery so that tomorrow when you wake up, you'll no longer laugh at the stupid s**t you find funny today. You want to be just like everyone else, don't you?"

I'd rather die, than be just like everybody else. Why don't they find a cure for Aids or cancer?

It's for the same reason they test human cures on animals. It's to rule out any adverse effects the drug might have- even more important than curing the patient is not to kill them :P

Phase 1: animal trials
Phase 2: Clinical trial on healthy adult volunteers
Phase 3: Clinical trial (randomised, double blind etc...) on sample population of autistic individuals (too see if cure actually works)
Phase 4: Drug marketed but still carefully monitored for adverse SEs

(it differs slightly from country to country)

A cure from what?

Aspie is what we are not something we have.

I think it is just safer for NTs to think that we need “fixed” rather than dealing with the fact that we are neurologically so different form them. That is just way to scary for their belief system to deal with. How could civilization be bases on any other social/ intellectual system other than the one they know, they would be lost. Then their “wiring would need to be “fixed”

I would have replied with, no what your saying is like saying we should "cure" black-ness, or Jew-ness. Bigotry is bigotry, no matter how they dress it up.
