When I started school, the teacher told us that we could be ANYTHING we wanted to be when we grew up. I decided that I wanted to be a horse. It wasn't until I was nearly ten that I decided that was not going to happen. Did any of you have something different from NT's that you wanted to be when you grew up?

I had no concept of growing up. It was never in my mind that I had to "be" something.

I wanted to be a scientist or an astronaut. That's not that unusual, but I pursued it more aggressively than was typical.

Yeah, nothing unusual here, I just wanted to be a lion tamer at the circus. Well, or if the option had been there I would have wanted to be a falcon, but it was pretty obvious that was not in the cards.

A palaeontologist but when I had my career interview at 16 I thought I had better sound more normal so I said an archaeologist instead.

I'm not entirely sure I've actually grown up.
Sure, I've got older, but...

TBH I never gave it much thought as a child, and ended up just doing stuff that involved my special interests.

I wanted to work at a slaughter house as one of the carcass splitters or an animal stunner, if that is any indication of weirdness...

The only reason I don't now is because of the repetitive stress injuries they tend to suffer 8)

I thought I was gonna be a fairy and I'd get my wings when I turned 16. I watched Thumbelina way too much as a little girl.

I wanted to own an amusement park. As an adult, I still think that would be a neat job. As I can see that probably won't happen, I have come to own an amusement park afterall---an HO scale (1:87) one in my basement. It is in the early stages of construction, but I will get it finished. My model roller coasters are being built from my collection of historic 1920s blueprints that has taken me years to collect.

i changed my mind constantly - in 5th grade i was torn between an opera singer, a truck driver, and a nun
(i had no idea nuns were a religious thing, i thought it was just a job and i was raised southern baptist!)

Hell, I thought I was just weird. ;-)

i can (obviously) come off as really abrupt and my tone can sound sharpish, so feel free to ask me to clarify

I don't think mine were that unusual.
Farmer at first - because I like the smell of farms...although I knew pretty early on I couldn't do early mornings. Scientist (research - I was going to find the cure for HIV or cancer) or Geologist - unusual in the sense that everyone else at 6-10 still wanted to be firemen.

My parents wanted me to be some sort of physician in space. I don't really recall what I wanted to be... Actually, I'm still quite young and have not even completed secondary school (let alone tertiary school) yet, so I can say: "When I grow up, I want to be a geneticist."

So did you actually end up working at a slaughter house? Why would you want to do that in the first place??

Probably Superman up till the age of 7 or so, then for a long time a mad scientist/inventor type like Dr Emmet Brown. Eventually I realised that I would probably never have the physics knowledge to create a time machine, if such a thing is even possible without tying a knot in a wormhole. So I decided I wanted to be a researcher at an electronics or software company working on virtual reality or similar
Now I doubt I'll ever get much beyond doing basic CRUD apps, where did all my dreams go?

I had a special interest in snakes for a long time and wanted to be a herpetologist for a few years. ...Yes, I am a girl :)
