Temple Grandin!! !! :D She was at a conference I recently attended and I got to ask her if she had any advice for classes for me after I told her that I was majoring in psychology with a focus on Asperger Syndrome. She recommended a minor in Biology and several other classes that I did not think about before. It was very cool. She was a really great speaker.

wow ! You know, it would do nothing to me to meet Tom Cruise or Angelina Jolie (or any other great actor/actress) but i would be all nervous and shaky to meet Temple Grandin, Tony Attwood, Lorna Wing, Laurent Mottron.....

That's how I was! I was talking with her and my mom actually interrupted her! I was quite mortified. But that was because we were late for the next speaker and there was a crowd of moms around Dr. Grandin who were asking questions and were not letting me in. I was able to ask her my query though, as I enjoy talking with professionals, especially personal heroes, though she is the only one I have had the opportunity to talk with face to face.

I don't like the way she puts down people on autism spectrum (maybe not being aware of it) by constantly comparing us to animals. Whenever I have listened to her she always makes me cringe to the point I lower the volume, or turn the stream off all together.

I wish I could have gone to that conference but alias, I have to do stupid things like work.

Oh well.

Sounds like you had a good time. I would like to meet Temple Grandin one day myself.

Actually, I think she holds animals in higher regard than humans, so coming from her, I don't think it's a put-down but a compliment instead. :)

I can understand cause I tend to like animals better than humans, too.

I do too sometimes! It can be good to just snuggle with my Jack Russel (now Parson Russel) terrier sometimes.

Oooh, I am so jealous! Temple Grandin is probably the only 'celebrity' that I can think of who is alive, that I would want to meet.

I don't find anything at all offensve with comparing auties to animals. But then...I am the sort who can tell my goat's voices apart and who goes and talks to them in grunts and baa's.... :P
