has anyone here done an NT thing? I know lot of us have because it's impossible to have every single trait and be 100% aspie because we're all human. Not even NTs will have every single NT trait and they will also have an aspie moment.

Few days ago at work, someone from the union comes in and tells me about a contract they're tyring to make. They are trying to get the hotel to give us paid sick days so people won't come to work sick because they can't afford to miss work. Well as she was talking to me, I looked at her in the eyes as I asked her questions. That was so weird because it was as if my mind was doing it, not me. Is that how normal people do it? I hardly ever do this. Most of the time I don't look them in the eye at all. I might glance at their eyes and look away but most of the time I am looking at their faces or their body or down on them literally or elsewhere.

Anyone else ever experienced this?

It's like my mind will go normal and then back to malfunctioning again just like an old game system will decide to play a game but then it won't again after you turn it off because it's broken. I have heard about the old Nintendo systems being like that. One of my old neighbor's NES system rarely worked. One time it played Double Dragon but then it wouldn't play the other games, nor that game after we turned the system off. It probably needed a new pin connector.

Not really. Not in any respect to stuff I usually have difficulties with.

I haven't really noticed my difficulties disappearing for a bit of their own accord, and myself functioning for a little while in a way I don't usually. I am better at some times than in others (i.e. I have a hot streak and slumps as far as adaption is concerned.)

The times when I successfully "almost mimic NT's" I put a lot of work in. It can be rewarding of itself, but it doesn't seem weird or miraculous. Maybe I am just not understanding what you are saying.

I have the NT moments where I am making eye contact and not tripping and bumbing into things.

The original US/Eur NES's cartridge slot was probably the worst idea NoA ever had (even though it did pique my interest enough to tell my dad we had to get one). I finally got fed up and bought a top loader off eBay.

I mean...uh...what were we talking about?

I can do the eye contact thing sometimes, but I'm sure I'm not very good at it. I know you're supposed to look away 1/3 of the time or whatever the number is, but I'm never sure just how long that's suppose to be...so I either look away too much, or end up staring...and when I do look away, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking at.

My friends tried to help me with eye contact once...eventually they just sorta gave up :x

I was using the NES thing as an example about how some things decide to work as if they have a mind of their own and then they go back to not working. My mind is like that.

I was asking if we ever do anything NT. One day we will be good with something like eye contact and then we can't do it again.

NT means Neurotypical--anyone with no neurological disorders whatsoever.

I'm sure all of us do NT things at one point or another.

Sometimes I catch myself laughing about and taking part in very non-literal jokes. Often I do eye contact very well without even thinking about it. Sometimes my facial expressions are easy to read, and I'm able to read other people's expressions and body language to some extent. There are plenty of other examples.

The main thing is that nobody with AS has absolutely no Neurotypical traits. Okay, this is an assumption, but, after living our whole lives in an NT world, it's inevitable that we will pick up some NT traits. It's like moving far away and gradually picking up the local accent.

Today someone knocked on my door and it was my neighbor who lives below me. She looked upset because I saw it on her face. She said someone tried breaking in her apartment that morning because the screen was torn and stuff and I was looking at her face and eyes. I did another NT thing.

I don't know if I'd recognize an 'NT Moment' if I had one...

I've spent years working on an act to appear normal to people so I can fit in with the crowd. I do things that NTs do so that they'll accept me quicker, and from doing that, I've gotten to like it. I love going to loud concerts, I love going to karaoke night at the bar down the street, I love getting plastered with friends, and I love going to loud parties. Anything I don't like about these things, I've figured out ways to get around it, but it does take a lot more concentration.
