I want to be a writer. I have good ideas that I could use for a fantasy novel, but Every time I always have an idea and I present it to a neurotypical, they always degrade and demoralize it, especially if they're Christian. I mean I'm Christian myself, but they think that fantasy is part of the world. WHy don't neurotypicals respect or appreciate the aspie's ideas?

They don't appreciate aspies because in their mind they think we are being lazy by not blending in and confroming. They feel conformity guilt.

Hmm, it could be your presentation. I know that even when I have a good idea, other people won't be able to understand it if I'm not communicating well. It's something I've struggled with over time.

They could be trying to talk you out of something they're not sure you can do. Most people find writing for a living difficult. They may think that they're saving you from disappointment.

It's also true that many truly unorthodox ideas aren't really liked at first. People don't like the unfamiliar right away. Note that this does not mean that if people don't like your work, you are a misunderstood genius. Sometimes your product just isn't very good.

Your ideas could involve characters or settings that are trademarked, and so be difficult to get official permission to use. For example, while some writers are allowed to use the Star Wars universe for their novels, I've heard that you must have at least two successful books published before the francise will even look at your manuscript, and even then they still may not give you permission.

You could be asking the wrong people to judge your work. Some people don't like fantasy novels, jazz music, or spicy food. It doesn't matter how good a plate of spicy burritos is, if the person doesn't like spicy food they won't like them. This is the same for aspies and NTs.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I think the problem is the your church, not your aspergers. Fundamental christians have closed minds. They limit their world view and close their minds to many exciting ideas.

There are different 'brands' of the church.

Why not share your writing on WP? There is the writers' thread.

I love fantasy and would like to see you succeed. I think an aspie mind would have a differnt way of doing fanatasy and fantasy readers are always searching for exciting new ideas.

you should share your work on here. NTs can be really rough. I think they dont quite understand us all the way and so they just make fun of or bully us. I had a good friend, but once I told her about my AS, she is really snotty and rude to me. I wish they would understand us!

Remember you innately visualize the story you are writing/reading, NTs do not unless you supply very explicit details imbedded in the narrative (to set the scene). It is the communication “gap” in reverse.

Don't bother running your ideas past other people. Just write the book. It won't really make sense until you write the book anyway, because it all depends on how you tell the story.

If you're keen on writing Fantasy, there's a writer's group I'm part of called Critters, where you critique other people's writing, then you go in the queue and they critique you. Valuable learning experience. They're at: http://www.critique.org/users/critters/ . There may be other Fantasy sites online that are helpful, too.

I don't think other people's reactions have anything to do with being NT or Christian. I think it has to do with being a writer or not (although fantasy nuts may be keen, regardless).

Ahem!! There are a lot of narrow-minded people in every group. I'm NT and trying to get to know an Aspie. It's hard work, but I'm patient. Don't have time for fiction much these days, but I was an English major and I used to write a bit, poetry, short stories. Hey, James Joyce got published. Finnegan's Wake is incomprehensible by most people and Ullysses isn't far behind. People like what they like, NT or Aspie. But, yeah, I know, people are prejudiced. But not all of us NTs are. I used to be in publishing: write at least a chapter and an outline and research publishing houses. Find a house that publishes similar sort of stuff. Nowadays you can publish online, too. And if it takes off, they'll come running to you. Also, are you sure you want your work to be loved by enough people to make it publishable? That means it appeals to the least common denominator. Do you want that?

Is that actually true? Ive talked to my mom and my bf and they can visualize just fine. I dont think they need to hold something to be able to do so. Does that mean they have aspergers? I thought all people saw pictures in their heads when they read books, aspie or not.

I'll tell you why they can't accept us... they're afraid. They know that most aspies are intellectually superior and have a greater sense of justice. They put us down because they are trying to prevent the coming revolution, in which we aspies take our rightful place in the hiearchy of this planet. Pitiful fools... they don't realize that this revolution cannot be forestalled, only delayed...

Depends on who you're showing it too. If you vaule their opinion as discriminating readers of good taste, I would listen to what they have to say. If not, screw 'em.

When someone criticizes my work, I demand brutality. :)

I think your question presupposes a fact that isn't necessarily true.
