I've just done the Cambridge faceblind test http://www.faceblind.org/facetests/index.php and I got 96% (and that's including 3 pictures that didn't download properly so I just clicked a random number).

Hmm so what does that mean in terms of AS?

I think I need to do the other face test too actually, that one where you're supposed to be able to read peoples emotions from the eyes/facial expressions, anyone got a link?

Cheers (hope you're all well and not feeling miserable like me on this fine sunny day),

- Brad

You don't have to be faceblind to have AS.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm starting to wonder whether I have Social Anxiety Disorder or Aspergers Syndrome or both...?

I definetely have social anxiety but whether or not it's the disorder or just a more temporary thing I don't know.

And some of the Aspergers stuff is very very close to the mark and some of it just doesn't seem to fit?

I also read about a long-term type of depression which is not completely debilitating but there constantly in the background, maybe I have that?

I think sometimes I'm my own worse enemy when it comes to trying to figure out what's wrong with me as, over the years, I've learnt to just soldier on and get through things. But it would be nice to know why I feel nervous in group situations and have difficulty opening-up to others.

I think the depression I feel is because of my own 'self-image' i.e. thinking of myself as different and disfunctional - like a social outcast.

And the anxiety I feel in group situations/new situations is also another symptom of a bigger deep-down problem, but I'm just not sure what that is. I feel reluctant to keep going back to a therapist because I don't want to be different or admit defeat and it's also bloody expensive.

My brother has OCD and although I'd never mention it I'm fairly sure my mum has social anxiety, my dad is a very systematic person but I don't think he has Aspergers as he likes group situations and generally seems to get on well with people.

Oh I dunno, I'm fed up of worrying about it really...

PS. Some ducks are having sex outside my window right now, why is duck-porn so noisy! Very irritating...

I think the best thing you can do if you're wondering if you have AS or not is just read up about it. Read about symptoms/criteria and see if it fits you. If you find that most of the stuff fits you, id look for an assesment somewhere. If it bothers you not knowing that is.

I'm afraid to try it as I'm very, very faceblind. However, I have NLD rather than AS.

Hmm, I got 85%, and I have an official diagnosis.

One thing is could be is that it isn't so much faces you are good at, but remembering 3d objects. IMO they weren't doing the test right, since the faces were always wearing the same expression. I was able to figure some out because the face was slightly frowning or smiling.

Iam not face blind, in face Iam very good at summing people up just by looking at thier faces.

Then again, maybe I havnt got AS.

But I have got most of the symptoms of AS, my theory though is that an abusive Childhood, being permanently left in a room on my own, didnt give me the chance to learn the things NTs learn, but that AS are maybe unable to learn, consequently, I end up like AS.

I would imagine there are many differant roads that result in similar syptoms and difficulties.

Weird...I recognized almost every one of those faces and could name characters they played, but for some reason I couldn't think of their actual names. Even Jim Carrey, who's one of my favorite actors. I could name a bunch of his characters but not his actual name until it reminded me.

Wait, those faces weren't just random, they were actually well-known actors? I didn't recognize anybody. And I really like Jim Carrey :(

There are two tests on that site. One with normal faces, and one with celebrities. Is it possible you took the non celeb one? :)

I don't believe I am as faceblind as that test implies. As the makers say there are other reasons why you might do badly.

I don't know, I took the first one the link showed.

I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't recognize the celebs. I was more using my ability to remember details then recognizing the faces - stuff like 'that guy has a double chin, widely spaced eyes, and is sort of smiling'.

I did fine when there was just one face, remembering specific details, but did lousy once there was more than one - 50% overall! I always thought surely I'd know if I were faceblind though.. maybe I just have a lousy short-term memory.

i'm not face blind. but i do have as. i got 88% on the test there.

however i do sometimes, although not that often, mix people up. just, like 2 people whose faces and names i will confuse for a month or so, say if i start a new job or something. but maybe everyone experiences this.
