Yes, I can see a lot of sadness and bewilderment in Michael and Dwight, too. I can really relate to the show; at first I thought it was a spoof on those stupid SkillPath seminars my company makes us attend. If anyone has ever had to sit through one of those you know what I mean. The Office is so much more realistic!
I can sit there and laugh because I have been in some of those situations or similar, and I think it's like Dilbert, you really have to experience it to get it. I have a neighbor who says Dilbert is the stupidest comic and that no company could be like that. I said oh, yes, it really is like that--Scott Adams isn't making up much. Same with The Office.
If Michael and Dwight were openly labeled as AS, and the show were played for laughs, I would have more of a problem with that. It is sad, but totally true to life, that nobody tries to help either one of them see what is going on. But I think that is because both Michael and Dwight are in denial and it is hard to reach someone who is in denial. Perhaps there could be some way that the writers of the show could incorporate positive ways of interacting between Michael and the other employees. I realize the show is a comedy in general and not as mean-spirited as some, but after a while, yes it does kind of get to you that here are these two people who don't have a clue and all we can do is laugh.
