I don't see the point of paying someone $100/hour to teach you all these things when you can look them all up online for free. No wonder so many psychologists don't respect their patients.

It's one thing to understand the concept of cognitive behavioral therapy, and another to actually apply it to deeply ingrained beliefs about yourself and about others. There is a reason they're called "automatic thoughts." Sometimes you need someone outside yourself to point out these false beliefs.
Who says psychologists don't respect their patients? I've known many psychologists (because my parents are psychologists), and I've never gotten the sense that they don't respect their patients. Bear in mind that I have had the advantage of hearing them talk about patients (in general terms obviously to protect confidentiality) outside of the clinic setting, with other psychologists. If they were going to express lack of respect for patients anywhere, they would likely do it in that setting. I've heard psychologists express *frustration* about working with certain populations (for example, schizophrenics, because the prognosis is often poor and they often feel powerless to help), but never disrespect.
Perhaps this is a false belief *you* have which is influenced by your own skewed perceptions of others' motivations and feelings.
