Going to summer camp, camping outdoors and your own space
I'm going on a gap year in September and this is 1st time i've gone away since being diagnosed. So i've been on many camps in the past this is like a year long camp with more freedom and less treating you like kids.
The bit i dread about every camp is the day or days they say lets sleep out doors. I hate it, sleeping on the floor, bugs where's the toliet? Food OMG i only eat very little and camping food GROSS i starve and there is no grocery shop to run to buy a secret stash.
One time they said where going to sleep in the desert, everyone else was excited. Me, MY WORST NIGHTMARE. I'm sunburn, i need food, i need to go to the toliet properly without crouching behind a bush, i need electrity IT WAS HELL. I hike to the spot and cryed and cryed until they took my back because to be honest i just needed a s**t and hated the idea of doing it behind a bush lol
That night i slept in the kitchen with people who had a sick bug even though i have a PHOBIA OF SICK, because i'd rather face sick then a night in the desert. Insane!
my point is i went insane with the lack of personal space do u think i should ask for it on my year out? I am declaring my aspergers but i dont want to stand out in the youth hostel for the only one with my own room i'll look spoilt. I was wondering if it would help me for marriage and sharing a room with ur husband i'd learn to share rooms? Or would my frustration take over so much it will ruin my year out?

When I was young, although I loved the outdoors, I really hated camping. Some of the same things as you--never got any sleep in the wretched sleeping bag, gagged at the food I was served (which I classify as "kid food", which I never ate even as a kid), and sharing close quarters with noisy crowds that I had nothing in common with. When I was young, doing my business outdoors was a real trial, too (not now). Amazingly I kept my love of the outdoors, and eventually learned that you can camp alone! You can control the food, sleeping conditions, etc., and enjoy the solitude that terrifies the NTs. Alas, only time will accomplish this. I think kids' camps exist only to give parents a few child-free weeks. Not familiar with the "gap year" concept--could you please explain?

Er - if you hate camping so much, why are you going?
(Incidentally I can relate to most of the things you dislike - I hate the idea of camping so much it's not someting I would even consider doing.
It's got to be a good standard single hotel room for me every time, preferably with an ensuite!
By gap year i mean i'm going abroad, with a group of people my age from all over the world (english speaking only) we are living in a youth hostel INDOORS not camping! for 3 months and then spred out all other country in apartments to volenteer. Our scedule is organised for us, and we are 'supervised' which i'm not excatly sure what that means yet. The more the year goes on the more we are left to our own devices. I wanted to travel my whole life but am to scared to do my own thing, i do need at this stage some sort of support.
the 2nd reply shopaholic : Its not camping excatly but it is sort of going on a year long 'summer camp' but more freedom coz we're adults.

i pretty sure that 1st month i'm going to get incredibly frustrated but it isnt really high schedule.I just found out the 1st month is apartment living so thats better environment then a youth hostel, morning volunteering afternoon free time. not that hectic. But i need to learn these skills for life
i aplyed for this last year before i got diagnosed i really want to travel more then anything so nothing is going to stop me, what i want to know is not having my own room in that enrioment going ot push me over the edge into a mental breakdown? Also are there any other things that i could suggest they adjust to help me?
