I have an idea that won't be implemented, but consider this: Why don't we select avatars according to our ranks?

Okay, the last one sucks. But what you think?

No way, that idea really goes aginst what Aspie people are like. We don't like the whole ranking system thing...... besides what would the point of that be anyway? Trust me bad idea.

I absolutely refuse to have the last one as my avatar! That would be incredibly ugly and disgusting!

I'm with Sean on this one. That is in VERY bad taste, and is blatently offensive.

Sean, calm down. Thagomizer isn't trivialising anything. It is only a photograph. It may be slightly in poor taste, but that was a bit of an overreaction on your part.

I agree with Ante.

But according to you the american military should poor pigs blood over the opposition bodies in Afghanistan thinking they should get buried with pig's carcasses and you take great delight in the killings of foreigners and the deformations due to the atomic bombs in Japan. You never show anything but callousness when it comes to killings and torture when it comes to foreigners but when there is a mild goading of an American you get outraged. You are indeed a hypocrite of the highest order. I believe it is in slightly poor taste but nothing out of the ordinary on the internet and the fact that it is the military or an american makes not a jot of difference in my mind.

That's not true. Republicans help make all those funerals possible. ;)

Veterans, if they weren't/aren't too disabled by injuries in the war to work they'd/they'll still get no support off the serving Republican government beyond meagre financial benefits. Don't make out you or your political idealogy have anymore respect for Veterans than Thagomizer had for suggesting the use of that photograph.

Anyway, I think this is a bad idea but we all have them sometimes. ;)

Just because Sean has made offensive and crass comments in the past does not excuse anyone from doing the same. Humans being maimed or killed is not a joking or trivial matter reguardless of their national origin etc. PERIOD!

No.

I don't want boring avatars that are the same as everyone elses.

Second that. My Avatar is not exactly the most interesting or exciting but it's very much mine! :)

I agree, the avatar is there as an expression of character. How it is expressed should be our own choice.

I think it's a bad idea. There are the ranks that people use and the little boxes that are coloured in different colours for however many posts people have, so that's good enough. If we were to all have the same avatars, that would make our sense of individuality go down and spark conformity within WP. Is that not something that neuro-typicals advocate?

I rather like seeing everyone else's avatars because I connect avatars with certain people. And I like my own and would be very pissed off if forced to change it. :x

Thagomiser, I think it is a fine idea, and I think it would make it easier to recognise how much a person posts on the forum. However, I also think there is a lot of merit in individualised avatars, and thus would like to keep mine. I'm glad I'm not the first person to think Sean was overreacting: to be perfectly honest I thought that the Veteran picture was funny when I first saw it. As a community of Aspies and the like, I think it shameful that we are jumping down each other's throats. On reflection, the trivialisation of an injured person isn't just, but I think we would all agree that Aspies often fail to grasp the full meaning of serious events, and I know a lot of Aspies who react strangely to bad things (people who don't cry when a close friend/family member dies, people who don't 'get' why natural disasters are bad). I doubt that Thagomiser was trying to be antagonistic, and for those of us who aren't always on the mark with interpreting emotions, it can be VERY embarassing and upsetting to get such a sharp remark.

For the record, I feel embarassed: I in no way would mean to make fun of someone who has been wounded in battle, and yet if it hadn't being pointed out that it was in bad taste, I could quite easily have not realised. Am I to be condemned for my honesty?
