For those of you who do not know, I perform stand up comedy.
I am currently working on writing an entire set ripping apart Autism Speaks and the entire "Cure Autism" movement. My set will focus on supporting neurodiversity and will hopefully make people think and make people support the cause. I have been writing jokes and doing research.

I do not know when or where I will be performing it. I might perform it at The University of Illinois at Chicago in the fall so I can reach a large amount of people and create as large a controversy as possible.

oh that sounds tough. i find that comics with an agenda seem to have a harder time being funny than those who aren't trying to send a message. if you can make a good show out of it i'd love to see it

my favorite comic George Carlin gets away with it. Mainly because he's smart and knows what he's talking about.

This guy is a prime material:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_H._Goddard

I like to use dead pan with diagrams to get a point across:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt65698.html

I know how hard it is to stand in front of an audience. It is hard enough with 15-20 people, but a heckling stand up club audience is where so many people have died on stage. My dad visited comedy store in the 70s when 'alternative' was hitting the scene. It was that infamous occasion when Alexei Sayle pored a whole pitcher of water over a heckler.

Anyway I could do normal stand up, but I did used to write sketches as a kid.

Well, something to look forward to, I'm sure.

Maybe you can include material about how some of our kids are not potty trained into their teens. Also, wouldn't it be funny to talk about those people suffering from autism who can never be expected to live independently, or hold a job, or marry, or have anything in life that most people might take for granted. Not to mention those kids that can't speak, or constantly seek stimulation, or are intolerant of anything out of routine.

Then you could take aim at the parents of the children with this disability. It would be funny to point out how selfish they are, how they whine, and want everyone to pity them. How they go to bed every night and wake up every morning wondering how they can help their son or daughter. And what happens to those kids after they die. And the money the spend - absolutely hysterical stuff.

Then you could make sport of the taxpayers. After all, someone's going to have to take care of these disabled folks in the long term.

The nerve of organizations like Autism Speaks and Cure Autism Now. They should be parodied for trying to make life better for an ever increasing segment of our population.

Given the expected rave reviews the "He jests at scars that never felt a wound" routine would garner, I think a second, bigger crowd might await you in the parking lot.

@George57

You haven't quite got the hang of satire, but Ill give you a compassionate 8 out of 10;). Personally I'm just as against those who want to stop any research or scientific development than I'm against 'curbies'. I'm against absolutism in general.

One of the reasons why 'Autism Speaks' is a flawed organisation is its unwavering stance that amounts to being anti the autistic identity (or individualism). The clue is in their motto. People have areas that they may want to improve, but not everyone wants their autism ‘cured’. Another area, which I think is ludicrous, is this obsessing over there being a single cause. This is anti-objective, but luckily for others it is their Achilles heal.

If you want to see a good example of satire:

Make sure you read it right to the end.

And for pete's sake read the index.html page these days or you won't even know what it's satiring. (I had to put notice up recently because the site it's satiring was taken down, so people didn't realize that the entire thing was intended as a satire and not as some kind of full biographical sketch.)

Sorry I should have linked to that page in hindsight.

Now that's pure gold.

Anyway, back to the main thread. I don't know what to say other than good luck. I take it you're used to talking in front of large crowds, so that's great. I don't envy you in trying to get your point across while making it funny, but there is lots in Autism Speaks that can be easily satirised.

And make sure you do create a large controversy.

No they should be improving the person's life without completely changing their personality and who they are. Make them from LFA to HFA. I would expect a high suicide rate if they were cured they would realize their personalities were erased. I honestly can't tell where AS ends and the rest of my personality begins. Plus I highly highly doubt a cure will ever be found. It effects the brains physical structure. It would be like making an asian person black.

And by soon I mean within a couple years or maybe a couple months.

Don't think I'm not going to do my research on this and make some ignorant argument. I'm not Carlos Mencia.
